Willow's POV

"Are we still on for tonight?" Johanna's voice rings in my ears from the other side of my phone just as I see Dylan emerge from the school doors.

A smile finds its way to my face just at the sight of him and I wave excitedly.

"Yes, Jo. I'll meet you at the diner at six p.m. is that okay with you? I don't want to get home too late, I have to put Dylan to bed." I tell her.

She agrees with me and as soon as Dylan reaches my legs to hug me I quickly say goodbye and hung up on the call.

"Who was that mommy?" Dylan steals a shy glance at me from underneath his thick lashes. "Did you find my father already?"

And just like that the good day I was having so far shatters with the knowledge that I have to let him down once again.

No baby," I pick him up, cocking my hip to the side to better support his weight. "I haven't found him yet. As soon as I do, I'll contact him and ask him to meet you, okay?" I lied.

I hate lying to him but I can't bear to break his heart.

"It's okay." He mumbles.

"So, what did you learn at school today?"

"Oh, we were taught to count even more numbers, mommy, like they don't have an end." And just like that, he forgets about what was making him sad. He gets distracted by telling me everything he has learnt at school today, babbling throughout the entire car ride home and during his afternoon snack.
