Chapter 1

Lena’s POV

This party was totally insane!

Club 99 was closed and reserved for Richard Price’s strictly-by-invitation birthday party. A big cheesy disco ball was spewing out dancing dots of lights, splashing glitter all over the floors and walls. Nevertheless, only strategic places were illuminated by the flashing pink and blue lights, a greater perimeter was left in dimly-lit murkiness which was probably full of people doing things that were reserved for dark and dingy areas.

In one corner, it seemed like Zara Beige was getting manhandled. I think that’s the only way to describe the clumsy movement of his hand under her shirt as he does something to her breasts that reminded me of a terrible summer I spent at my Aunt’s Dairy Farm in Texas milking cows. Oh well, Zara seemed to have been enjoying it.

At another corner, I saw Zachary and his friends at the bar laughing loudly and chatting over their glasses of whisky and vodka. I saw Collins pouring shots into Brian’s mouth. Brian, a lightweight who never learns his lesson each and every time he wakes up in a pool of his own puke. Someone is definitely going to be clinging to the rim of a toilet bowl soon; someone ironically named Brian.

My eyes dragged over to the final corner. I saw her. Everyone calls us twins because we’re always together and we do literally everything together, but in reality we’re just best friends. We became really, really close almost the instant we met, simply because we’ve always had the same interests and our families are tightly related and we also belong to the same wolf pack, Willow Moon Pack. Hence, known each other since we were little girls and even garnered the nickname, The Twins Of The Willow Moon Pack.

She’s with her boyfriend or her mate, Luke and both with their iPhones were out, off course. They’re squishing their faces together as they pose romantically. They’re probably taking their hundredth selfie today, Snapped, Instagrammed, Tik-Toked and had the hell hashtagged out of it. Or whatever they do with their pictures. The perks of being the cutest couple at school that everyone admired but secretly envied because they were the ultimate match and the perfect package. Leah met her mate the moment she got her wolf, the lucky guy turning out to be Luke Carson.

Leah and I had been together over the years of our lives, built the reputation of being the most popular girls at Halewood High, the most elite school here in Willow Towns. The school and everyone in it practically worshiped the ground we walked on, we were beautifully attractive, smart and the leaders of the cheerleading team.

All the girls would kill to have just to be able to accompany us during one of our Sunday shopping outings and there was literally a wait list of boys who would like to date us. But Leah had a nice boyfriend and I was uninterested in the rest of the asshat males in our school.

“Well, well, well. If it isn’t the motherfucking Leah Hales.” Speaking of asshat males, Nathan Jones and the flock of asshole testosterone-doused clowns he calls friends walked by where I stood at the fruit punch bowl. A moment of insanity about to behold.

Nate Jones had a complacent smirk etched to the lines of lips as he eyed me down seductively. He has a notorious reputation for his perpetual skirt-chasing habits in this school and I’ve continually let him know that I would never have anything to do with him, but his skull was too thick to register any of that information, apparently.

I signed, mentally preparing myself for a conversation with the dufus and turned away from the fruit punch bowl, facing him. “What the fuck do you want Nate?” I folded my arms, uninterestedly questioning.

He chuckled, “What’s with the attitude pumpkin, I just got here? You should be jumping with excitement to see me.” His flirtatious tone sent icky shivers down my spine.

“This party was so much better before you and your band of clowns showed up.” I hissed in annoyance. “Do your best not to bother me throughout the rest of it.” I was firmed and terse in my statement and then turned to leave but Nate stopped me in my tracks by yanking my arm and making me face him back.

He licked his lips lustfully at me, “Look, I’m not here to fight with you, sweet thing. I’m just here for my share.” The cuckoo’s brain stated.

I arched my brows at him, his statement was confusing and the more minutes I spent here in the presence of this guy with an IQ lower than his age, the more irritation that flooded my veins.

“And what the hell do you mean by that?” I questioned obliviously and this earned a mocking laughter from his band of clowns and even he himself chuckled in amusement.

“A little birdie told me you’ve been fucking all the boys in the football team, starting from Trevor Lance, the pretty boy quarterback.” Nate divulged, whimsically describing Trevor and I was immediately taken aback, my eyes widened in shock. “And these rumours don’t lie, so I want my share too.” The confidence in which he shamelessly spoke fueled my anger the more and it took everything in me to not slap him shit in the face.

I couldn’t because Richard Price’s daddy was our principal and he made it clear at the beginning at this party that any form of violence would attract a two weeks suspension. I couldn’t ruin my clean slate because of this douchebag.

“What the actual fuck, Nate? Has all the crack you smoke finally scrambled your brain matter because I don’t get what the heck you’re yapping about.” I snapped, the timbre of my town skyrocketing and I pulled my arm out of his grip.

“Relax, pumpkin. You can save all these feistiness for the bedroom. I like them spunky.” He smirked, gloating and manifesting in some sort of peculiar testosteroned moronity.

“Your brain is spunky.” I pointed out and the smirk vanished from his face, all hints of gloat along with it.

I cleared my throat, “Well boys, since you’re so infested with my personal life, I’ll have you know that I didn’t sleep with anyone from the football team. They’re all fabricated lies.”

Nate scoffed, “That’s not what the rumours say.”

“Well, even if they were true, I would never sleep with you Nate, even if you were the last man on earth or sleeping with you would magically end the world’s hunger and bring world peace.” It was my turn to smirk smugly, I was hitting him where it hurt. His ego. “Besides, rumour has it that you have an itty-bitty teensy-weensy dick. See, I hear things too.” I demonstrated, bringing together my thumb and index finger the smallest width away from each other and satisfactorily watched all the complacent colour drain from his face as I delivered the final blow.

I had rendered Nate dumfounded and unable to say anything in a retort and I laughed at the hysterical look on his face.

“Come on guys, let’s go. She’s just a bitter virgin.” One of the guys from the band of clowns voiced, and the guys all turned to leave. The shame was evident in their face. Not so fast.

“And I suppose you aren’t?” I retorted, folding my arms. The guys halted in their tracks and turned to face me.

The boy shrugged, “Yeah.”

“Sleeping with your grandma’s dog doesn’t count, Jake.” I chuckled, pouting my lips as I feigned pity.

His face went beetroot immediately in embarrassment, and even his friends started snickering around him, “It’s just a rumour!” He stated vehemently.

“Exactly my point.” I chuckled, flipping my luscious brown locks and walked away from the idiots.

I sat down at one of the booths and let out a loud exhale, apparently putting dickheads in their place took a lot of work and plus, I was already bored of the party. I was just waiting around for Leah so we could go home. I brought out my phone with the intent of busying myself for the rest of the night scrolling through Instagram.

“Funny conversation with Nate and his friends back there.” I spun around on hearing the familiar voice. It was Trevor Lance, the handsome and talented star quarterback of Halewood High’s reputable football team. He had two drinks— martinis with cucumber slices— in his hands.

“Yeah. They’re all dimwits.” I smiled and he laughed lightly, beckoning on the empty space at where I sat and I nodded, agreeing for him to sit next to me and I scooted giving him enough room.

He heaved a sigh, sitting down. “You really know how to put them in their place, Lena.” He then passed me one of the drinks.

I grinned proudly, nodded, accepting his drink.

“They said I had sex with you.” I decided to let him know, and then took a sip off the Italian drink.

He coughed awkwardly, clearing his throat, “And what’s so bad about that?” He questioned playfully.

I smiled, “The fact that it’s never going to happen?”

He feigned being hurt, by dramatically clutching his chest and pretending to die. I laughed softly at his antics.

“So, has the Lena Hales thought about agreeing to go on a date with me?” Trevor finally asked and I chuckled nervously, taking yet another sip off my drink. I really had a hard time saying no to Trevor and that was because he was the only other friend I had apart from Leah who wasn’t after my money or just wanting to associate because of the fame. And recently, he had been making advances at me. It made our friendship quite uncomfortable.

“Yeah, about that—” I was about to make up yet another excuse to not go on a date with him, but as if on cue, one of the doors opened and I was left awestruck at the entrance of a magnificent specimen.

He looked like he had just walked out of a “Sexiest Man Alive Magazine.” Cringe as hell but– fuck, he was so god-damned good-looking. And I’d be evil if I kept all the candid details to myself.

His lush jet-black hair was neat and flowing, groomed so carefully such that they deeply complimented his aquamarine-green eyes that were beautiful, orb-round and shone like two eternity green jewels, yet they held a cold, hostile gleam etched in their glassy gaze, and it was almost bewitching.

His chiseled jawline was a bit downplayed by his neatly, bearded face and his lips sat gracefully on his face, which seemed like it was always, permanently scowled but in a tremendously attractive way. He was tall, rigidly fit and dazzled with flare in a dapper navy-blue button up shirt, a pair of Calvin Klein jeans and sneakers.

“You were saying, Lena?” Trevor’s voice interrupted me and I was jolted out of my totally pervy admiration.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah. We can go on a date or whatever.” I hadn’t realize what I said and would go on to regret it later. My brain immediately zoned out whatever Trevor must’ve said next as my eyes still followed the handsome specimen’s every movement.

He didn’t look familiar at all, and Willow Towns was a small town and you could recognize someone who was from the town. He looked so out of place and lost, lonely even.

I wanted to go talk to him and make him feel comfortable, and I did. Oh no someone should stop me because I’m getting closer.

And his eyes just landed on me, a smirk immediately curling up his heart shaped lips.
