At the heart of this story is Kiva-a girl caught between two worlds, two destinies, and a power she never wanted but can't ignore. Alongside her is Frederick, the fierce yet loyal werewolf prince, and a cast of characters who will steal your heart, test your patience, and maybe even break a few rules.

Chapter 1 The Voice in the Dark

For most of my life, I believed magic, werewolves, witches, and fairies were just stories. Fantasies told to children. Nothing real.

At least, that's what I used to believe.

My name is Kiva. I was born into a wealthy, well-known family. To the outside world, it probably looked perfect. But behind the closed doors of our mansions, I was alone. My parents were always "too busy". Too busy for birthdays, for dinners, for me. I was raised by nannies and strangers.

There was something else, too. A strange birthmark on my back swirling patterns like ink in water. It burned whenever I got too emotional. Doctors said it was nothing. I didn't believe them.

We moved a lot. Always after one of my "episodes" when I saw things no one else did, or when the pain became unbearable. Each time, my parents blamed it on "business." But I knew they were running from something.

This new place was the strangest yet a giant, gothic mansion deep in the woods. Cold, quiet, and miles from the nearest town. As we pulled up the long driveway, I glanced at my only companion, Lala, my pet falcon, tilting her head in that knowing way of hers.

That night, after dinner, I sat in my room feeding Lala. I sighed. "I wish I could make a real friend this time." Her feathers brushed my cheek, gentle and warm.

Then I heard it.

"I think you'll make a good friend."

I froze.

I looked at Lala. "Did... you say something?"

Another voice, light and teasing: "Of course birds don't talk. And I'm not a bird."

I stumbled back, heart pounding. "Who's there?"

A shimmer moved in the corner. Then something stepped into view small, glowing, and absolutely real.

A fairy.

Not glittery or cartoon-like. She had sharp features, delicate wings, and glowing eyes full of secrets.

Beside her stood a grumpy-looking dwarf with a tiny axe and a scowl that could curdle milk.

"So I'm not crazy," I whispered. "You're real."

The fairy smiled. "You're not crazy, Kiva. You're just... waking up."

"Why me?"

The dwarf snorted. "We thought you were the one, but".

"Don't mind him," the fairy cut in, covering his mouth. "He's always like this."

I laughed. Actually laughed. For the first time in forever.

They turned to leave, muttering about a mistake. Panic gripped me.

"Wait! I do believe in you. In magic. Please... don't leave me too."

The fairy paused, then turned back. "You can call me Echo."

I pointed at the dwarf. "And I'll call you Grumpy."

He grunted. "Figures."

And just like that, everything changed.

Maybe I wasn't cursed. Maybe I wasn't broken.

Maybe... I was just beginning.
