Chapter 1 Blood Moon Rising

The cold wind tore at Aria's long black hair as she stood on the edge of the cliff, the blood-red moon rising slowly behind the dark mountain peaks. Its eerie glow painted the clouds crimson, casting long shadows over the forest below. The world felt like it was holding its breath, waiting.

Her heart pounded-not from the cold, but from the heavy ache inside her chest. The ache of memories she tried to bury. Every time the blood moon appeared, the curse came back to life. A curse that had stolen every mate she had ever dared to love.

She wrapped her arms tightly around herself, struggling to keep the panic at bay. The wind whispered secrets through the trees, as if the forest itself mourned with her.

Her thoughts spiraled, dragging her down to the darkest places she wanted to forget.

The first mate.... His name was lost in the haze of time, his face lingered in her mind like a ghostly presence, his strong features and kind eyes etched into her memory. She recalled the way his gaze would crinkle at the corners when he smiled, the way his voice rumbled like the sea itself. But it was the fear that haunted her dreams – the fear that crept into his eyes on that fateful night under the blood moon

The second mate..... Brave, wild, reckless-he'd sworn he would break the curse, but the moon took him too.

And the third... The last. His death was the cruelest cut, a betrayal wrapped in silver fangs and broken promises.

Aria's breath hitched as she clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms. She had vowed never to love again, never to let herself fall into that deadly trap. But the loneliness was suffocating.

A sudden sound shattered the silence-a twig snapping beneath heavy footsteps. Her pulse quickened. She wasn't alone.

From the shadows stepped Kael, a rogue Alpha with eyes like molten gold and a presence that set the air on fire. His silhouette was sharp against the blood moon's glow, muscles taut, ready for a fight or a flight.

"You shouldn't be here," Aria said, voice low, fierce.

"Neither should you," Kael replied with a crooked grin that didn't quite reach his eyes. "But the packs are hunting you, and I'm tired of watching you run."

Her gaze narrowed. She had learned long ago that trust was a dangerous game, especially with men like him-wild, unpredictable, and carrying their own scars.

"They call me cursed," she whispered, voice cracking. "Every Alpha who's ever loved me... died beneath this moon."

Kael took a step closer, unflinching. "Maybe it's time someone fought for you instead of running."

The tension between them was electric, the air thick with unspoken truths.

Suddenly, a low growl erupted from the trees behind them. A pack of enforcers, their eyes gleaming with cold menace, emerged from the shadows.

Aria's heart hammered in her chest. The blood moon's glow intensified, shadows dancing like ghosts among the trees. The curse was no myth tonight-it was very real and very close.

Kael's muscles tensed as he stepped in front of her, fists clenched. "Stay close. We run together. Or we die."

The chase began.

They sprinted through the dense forest, branches scraping their skin, roots threatening to trip them. The pack's howls echoed behind them, closing in. Aria's lungs burned, but fear pushed her forward.

Kael was a shadow beside her, strong and steady. When she stumbled, he caught her without breaking stride.

"We're not just running from them," Kael said, breathless. "They want you gone. And they're willing to kill for it."

"Why?" she gasped. "Because of the curse?"

"Because you're more than a curse," he said fiercely. "You're a threat to their power."

They burst into a clearing just as the moon reached its peak. The blood-red light bathed everything in an otherworldly glow.

Aria stopped, chest heaving, eyes wide. "What now?"

Kael's gaze hardened. "Now, we fight."

From the shadows, the pack enforcers appeared, snarling, eyes blazing. The battle was brutal and raw. Claws slashed, teeth snapped, and the forest floor was stained with blood and sweat.

Aria's instincts surged. Her senses sharpened. She wasn't just running anymore-she was fighting for her life, for the chance to break the curse that bound her.

Kael fought beside her, a fierce guardian whose every move screamed survival.

When the last enforcer fell, silence reclaimed the night. Aria sank to her knees, trembling but alive... I survived, she thought wondering if she'd still be alive if Kael hadn't come to her when he did

Kael knelt beside her, voice low but steady. "This is just the beginning."

She looked up at the blood moon, its light no longer a curse but a call. A call to face the darkness and find the strength to change her fate.

For the first time in a long time, hope stirred in her heart.
