Chapter 1 Yara's POV

I stood frozen, clutching the doorknob as if it was my lifeline. The argument unfolding on the other side of the door was like a punch to my gut.

Nathan's raised voice sent a shiver down my spine. "You can't ask me to marry you now, Elena," he yelled.

My mind reeled as I tried to process what I was hearing.

Six years of marriage, and it had all come crashing down.

The first three years were a whirlwind of romance and laughter or maybe that was what I thought, but the fairy tale came crashing down when my father passed away. I was left alone, and the weight of my father's legacy fell squarely on my shoulders.

I lost my mom the moment I entered the world, and my father became my entire universe. When he passed away, the ground beneath me crumbled, leaving me shattered and lost. In that darkness, Nathan was the only light I saw.

In a moment of raw grief, I handed Nathan the keys to my father's empire – the company, the properties, everything. I was blinded by my pain and trust in him, and he knew exactly what he wanted. He took it all, and I gave it willingly, thinking I'd secured our future together.

But as time went on, I watched in dismay as he transformed into a stranger. His priorities shifted, and work became an all-consuming obsession. Visits home dwindled to rare occurrences, and our conversations felt forced. The man I loved seemed to fade away, replaced by a shadow of his former self.

I'd suspected there was someone else, but I'd chosen to ignore the signs. The women's belongings I'd found on him, the late-night calls every time he was at home, the distant gaze-I convinced myself it was all just work-related. But now, the truth was slapping me in the face.

The mention of Elena's name sent a wave of nausea washing over me. The words Nathan spoke next were like a knife to the heart: "Let's just keep the pregnancy a secret for now. You are Yara's best friend. I can't just marry you because I want to."

I felt like I was living in a nightmare, and I couldn't wake up. Is this really happening?

He wasn't just cheating-but with my best friend.

Elena was the only friend I had all my life. She was one of the orphans that was sponsored by my father's company and my father held her in high esteem because she was the brightest among her peers, and that's how we became best friends. But now, it's cruelly fitting that she's carrying my husband's child.

As I pushed open the door, fury and pain seared my veins. Nathan and Elena stood frozen, caught in the act.

"How could you?" I spat, my voice trembling with anger. "Both of you?"

Nathan took a step forward, but I held up my hand, stopping him. "Don't even think about it," I warned.

Elena looked like she'd been slapped, but I didn't care. "You're...you're my best friend," I said, my voice cracking.

The room fell silent, filled only with the sound of my ragged breathing. My world had just been turned upside down.

"What now?" I demanded, looking at Nathan. "You expect me to just forgive and forget?"

The silence that followed was deafening.

Nathan's eyes darted between me and Elena, but I refused to look at her. My focus was on the man who had broken my trust, my vows, and my heart.

"You...you didn't know about Elena and me?" Nathan asked, his voice laced with guilt.

"Know?" I laughed, a bitter sound. "I suspected, but I chose to ignore it. I thought our marriage was stronger than this and I never expected Elena to be the woman you're cheating with."

Elena finally found her voice. "Yara, I'm sorry. I never meant to hurt you."

I turned to her, my anger boiling over. "Sorry? You're sorry? You're my best friend, and you've been sleeping with my husband. Sorry isn't enough."

The room fell silent again, the tension palpable. Nathan's face was unreadable, while Elena seemed on the verge of tears.

"What about the baby?" I asked, my voice cold. "You want to marry him now, with a child on the way?"

Elena's eyes dropped, and Nathan shifted uncomfortably. "It's...complicated," he began.

"Complicated?" I repeated, my voice rising. "You're going to have a child with my best friend, and you're still living with me. That's not complicated – that's disgusting."

The words hung in the air, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of regret in Nathan's eyes. But it was too late for regret. The damage was done.

Nathan's face switched to defensiveness. "You're overreacting, Yara. You're always so sensitive."

I raised an eyebrow. "Sensitive? You think I'm overreacting? You're the one who's been absent for years, barely making time for me, for us, and for our marriage. You are still the same person that impregnated my best friend like an affair isn't enough, and now you're trying to play the victim?"

Nathan's expression faltered for a moment before he regained his composure. "I'm just saying, you're not making this easy. You're not listening to me."

I shook my head, and tears welled up in my eyes. "I'm listening, Nathan. I'm hearing a man who's thrown our marriage and all our vows away."

The air was thick with tension as Nathan's face reddened.

I turned my attention to Elena, giving her a tight lipped smile. "And you," I said, my voice low and even. "You're supposed to be my best friend. How could you do this to me?"

Elena took a step back, her eyes wide with fear. "Yara, please understand-"

I cut her off, my voice rising. "Understand? You want me to understand? You slept with my husband, and now you are pregnant with his baby, and you want me to understand?"

I took a step closer to her, my heart hammering in my chest. "Get out," I spat. "Get out of my house, get out of my life. I never want to see you again."

Elena looked at Nathan, but he just stood there, frozen. She turned back to me, tears streaming down her face. "Yara, I'm sorry-"

I pointed to the door. "Leave. Now."

Elena hesitated for a moment before turning and running out of the house, sobbing. The door slammed shut behind her, and I turned to face Nathan.

The silence between us was oppressive.

The dimly lit room seemed to close in around me and the only thing I could hear was the soft hum of the air conditioner.

As I moved closer to him, the smell of Elena's perfume lingered around him. Then it all dawned on me. He never loved me, I was the one putting unnecessary meaning to everything.

How could I have been so blind? So stupid? The signs were all there, and I ignored them.

I stood tall, my hands clenched into fists. "You're going to regret this, Nathan," I said, my voice cold and calculated. "You're going to regret the day you ever cheated on me."

Nathan's face twisted in anger as he took a step closer, his finger jabbing at the air. "You're not listening, Yara," he snarled, his voice escalating.

I stood firm, my eyes locked on his, refusing to back down. "I understand perfectly," I shot back, my voice laced with venom.

"I understand that you're a cheating, lying husband who doesn't care about me or our marriage. Was it ever about me, or was it just about my father's money? Did you ever love me, or did I just become a means to make a nobody turn somebody?"

Nathan raised an eyebrow, and he raised his hand. Before I could react, he slapped me across the face, the sound echoing through the room. "Don't you dare call me a nobody." he roared.

I stumbled back, my cheek on fire.

My hand shot up to touch the sting, but it didn't help. Nothing could make this pain go away now.

Nathan's eyes widened in anger, and for a moment, we just stared at each other.

My legs trembled beneath me, but I refused to sit. I needed to stay upright, to stay in control at least on the outside.

Then, without a word, I turned and walked away, leaving Nathan standing alone in the room. The sound of my footsteps echoed through the silence, and I knew that our marriage would never be the same again.

As I reached the door, I turned back to him, my voice barely above a whisper. "It's over between us Nathan."
