Chapter 1 The Rejection

The moon hung low in the sky, casting its silver glow over the Bloodclaw Pack's training grounds. Serena Vale stood in the center of a gathering, her heart hammering against her ribs. The murmurs of the pack surrounded her like a suffocating fog, their judging stares piercing through her already fragile soul.

She had waited for this moment her entire life-the moment her mate would recognize her, accept her, and cherish her. But as Alpha Killian Stormborn stood before her, his golden eyes burning with an emotion she couldn't quite place, she knew something was wrong.

"You," he growled, his voice dripping with disdain. "You are my mate?"

Serena's breath hitched. "Yes..." she whispered, feeling the bond hum between them. It was real. It was undeniable.

But Killian's next words shattered her.

"I, Alpha Killian of the Bloodclaw Pack, reject you, Serena Vale."

The gasps from the crowd were deafening, but nothing compared to the pain that tore through Serena's chest. It felt like her very soul was being ripped apart, the bond snapping like a frayed rope. Her knees buckled, but she refused to fall.

He stepped closer, towering over her with his powerful frame. "You are weak, useless. An omega like you has no place beside an alpha."

Serena clenched her fists, swallowing back the sob threatening to escape. The mate bond was sacred, something wolves cherished. But for Killian, it was an inconvenience.

Before she could speak, another voice purred from behind him.

"She isn't fit to be your mate, Killian," Lena Blackwood, the pack's most powerful beta female, said with a smirk. "You deserve someone strong, not a pathetic little thing like her."

Serena looked at Killian, hoping-begging-to see a flicker of regret in his eyes. But there was none.

The rejection was final.

As Killian turned his back on her, Serena felt something shift deep inside her. The pain didn't just settle-it awakened something. A flicker of power buried deep within her bloodline. She didn't know what it was, but she knew one thing.

She wouldn't stay weak forever.

Pain. It was all Serena felt as she stumbled away from the Bloodclaw Pack's training grounds, her heart aching as if someone had carved it out with a dull knife. The rejection bond still burned in her chest, but she refused to let them see her break.

The forest swallowed her as she ran, her bare feet scraping against the cold earth. Every breath was a struggle, but she kept moving. She had to.

A voice whispered in the back of her mind. You are more than this. You are not weak.

She didn't recognize it, but it didn't sound like her wolf, Naya. It was deeper, more ancient, carrying an energy she had never felt before.

Serena collapsed beside a river, gripping her chest. "Why?" she choked. "Why did the Moon Goddess do this to me?"

Naya whimpered. Maybe this is just the beginning, not the end.

But Serena wasn't sure. What future did she have now? She had no home, no mate, no strength.

Lightning cracked across the sky, illuminating the dense forest. The wind picked up, swirling around her like a living force.

And then she heard it-footsteps.

Serena's entire body tensed. She forced herself to her feet, ready to face whatever was coming. A tall, cloaked figure emerged from the shadows, their piercing silver eyes glowing like the moon itself.

"I have been waiting for you, child," the stranger said, their voice rich with power.

Serena's pulse quickened. "Who are you?"

The figure stepped closer, lowering their hood to reveal a woman with long, silver hair and markings across her arms that pulsed with light.

"My name is Selene," she said, "and you, Serena Vale, are more than an omega. You carry the blood of the Forgotten Ones."

Serena's breath caught. "The Forgotten Ones?" She had only heard whispers of them-wolves with abilities beyond imagination, wolves thought to have been wiped out centuries ago.

Selene's lips curled into a knowing smile. "Your true power is awakening. And those who rejected you?" Her silver eyes darkened. "They will regret it."

The wind howled as Serena felt something stir deep inside her. A power she had never known.

She wasn't just an omega.

She was something far greater.

Serena's mind spun as she stared at Selene. The woman's words echoed in her ears. You carry the blood of the Forgotten Ones.

It couldn't be true. The Forgotten Ones were a myth, a bedtime story told to pups. Wolves who could command the elements, shift faster than the eye could follow, and heal wounds in seconds. They were supposed to be extinct.

"I don't understand," Serena said, her voice unsteady. "I'm just an omega. I have no power."

Selene studied her for a long moment, then lifted a hand. The air around them shimmered, and suddenly, Serena felt a pull deep in her chest-like a dormant part of her was waking up. The ground beneath her trembled, and the river's surface rippled unnaturally, as if responding to her emotions.

Serena gasped. "What's happening to me?"

Selene's eyes gleamed. "Your power has been suppressed for years, buried beneath your pain. But rejection has a way of unlocking what was meant to remain hidden."

The words sent a shiver through Serena. "You're saying... I had this power all along?"

"Yes. But those who raised you ensured you never discovered it." Selene's expression darkened. "The Bloodclaw Pack feared what you could become. So they made you believe you were weak."

Serena clenched her fists, memories rushing back-the constant belittling, the punishments for the smallest mistakes, the way the pack made her feel worthless. Was it all to keep her from realizing the truth?

Naya growled in her mind. They knew. They knew. And they still rejected us.

Serena's nails bit into her palms. For the first time, anger burned brighter than pain. "How do I control it?" she demanded.

Selene smiled. "That is why I've come. I will teach you. But first..." She stepped closer, reaching out. "You must let go of the past."

The air thickened as Selene pressed two fingers to Serena's forehead. A sudden wave of heat rushed through her, and the memories of her suffering-every cruel word, every moment of loneliness-rose to the surface.

Her breath hitched.

Then, she saw something new.

A vision.

She stood atop a battlefield, power crackling around her. The same wolves who once tormented her knelt before her, their eyes filled with fear and awe. And in the distance, a figure loomed-the same Alpha who had rejected her. Only this time, he was the one begging.

The vision vanished, leaving Serena gasping.

Selene pulled back, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "Now, do you see? This is your destiny. To rise from the ashes of their rejection... and make them kneel."

Serena's heart pounded.

She had spent her whole life believing she was nothing.

But now, she had a choice.

And she would never be weak again.
