Chapter 1 Stygian gloom: Sailing the Styx.

Usher's Pov

The River Styx flowed like a black serpent, its waters whispering secrets to the damned soul who dwelled upon its banks. The air was heavy with the scent of decay and death, and the sky above was a deep, foreboding crimson.

I stood at the helm of the ferry, my eyes fixed on the horizon as i navigated thr treacherous waters. The wooden hull creaked and groanrd beneath my feet, the sound echoing through the stillness like a mournful sigh.

As the usher of the underworld, it was my duty to ferry the dead across the river styx, guiding them to their final destination. I had performed this task for eons, watching as civilizations rose and fell and the world above changed beyond recognition.

But despite my familarity with the underworld, I couldn't shake the feeling of unease that settled in the pit of my stomach. It was a sensation I had grown accustomed to as of late, everscince the gods had decreed that i take a mortal bride.

The thought of being bound to a Mundane, as we call it here, with all their frailties and weaknesses filled me withe a sense of dread. I was a creature of the underworld, a being of darkness and shadow. What can i possibly have in common with a mortal.

As i pondered this question, the ferry bumped against the riverbank, jolting me out of my reverie. I turned to see a figure standing on the shore, a woman with skin as pale as alabaster and hair as black as the night.

She was my Bride.

I felt a shiver run down my spine as our eyes met, and for a moment, I forgot to breathe. There was something about her, something that drew me in and refused to let go.

But as quickly as it had begun, the moment passed. I remembered my duty and the role i was destined to play. I reached out a hand beckoning her to join me on the ferry.

"Come". I said trying to sound reassuring. "It's time to begin our journey together."

To my surprise she smiled wryly and stepped unto the ferry.

"Well, I suppose this is one way to get away from my in-laws," she said, her voice dripping in sarcasm.

I raised my brows taken aback by her sense of humor.

"Ah, i see," i replied trying to match her tone. " In that case, welcome to the underworld, I'm sure you'll find it a real family-friendly destination." I said as my lips curled up into a smirk.

I looked her dead in the eye and the bent forward to whisper into her ears, " Welcome to hell."
