In "Dreams Like Glass", a young dreamer named Kael discovers a mystical artifact, the Prism Shard, that links the waking world to a chaotic dreamscape. As factions clash over its power, Kael, alongside a fiery dreamsmith and a haunted bounty hunter, must journey through surreal dream worlds to prevent reality from shattering. Balancing fragile alliances and battling his own fears, Kael learns that the line between dreams and reality is as delicate as glass.
Kael Verity had always been a dreamer. But the dreams were never like this.
The sky above him shimmered like molten gold, streaked with ribbons of pale violet and burning orange. Beneath his feet stretched a bridge made entirely of glass, so clear that he could see the churning abyss below. The bridge groaned under his weight, cracks forming with every hesitant step he took. His heart pounded, his breath shallow as he moved forward.
Ahead of him, a figure stood at the far edge of the bridge. Cloaked in shadow, its shape flickered like a flame, unstable and unreal. It raised an arm, pointing to the horizon where a massive spire of light pierced the sky. The figure's voice echoed in Kael's mind, hollow and distant.
"Balance is broken. Fix it... or all will fall."
The cracks beneath his feet widened. Kael tried to run, but the bridge shattered. He plunged into the abyss, the wind howling in his ears.
He jolted awake, gasping for air. His body was drenched in sweat, and his hands trembled as he clutched his thin blanket. For a moment, he just lay there, staring at the wooden beams of the ceiling in his small room. The dream had felt so real.
Kael sat up, rubbing his face. The early morning light filtered through the cracks in the shutters, casting faint patterns on the walls. His heart was still racing. He couldn't shake the image of the glass bridge or the mysterious figure's haunting words.
"Another one," he muttered to himself. The dreams had started weeks ago, each one more vivid than the last. At first, he had dismissed them as the product of an overactive imagination. But this... this felt like something else.
A soft knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts.
"Kael?"
It was his sister, Mira. Her voice was light, but there was a note of concern in it.
"Yeah, I'm up," Kael called back, trying to steady his voice.
The door creaked open, and Mira stepped inside. She was younger by two years, her dark hair tied back in a loose braid. Her sharp eyes, so much like their late mother's, scanned his face.
"Another bad dream?" she asked.
Kael shrugged, trying to play it off. "Just a weird one. Nothing to worry about."
Mira didn't look convinced, but she let it drop. "Breakfast is ready. You'd better come down before Dad eats everything."
Kael managed a faint smile. "I'll be there in a minute."
Once she left, Kael swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood. As he dressed, his thoughts kept drifting back to the dream. The figure's words echoed in his mind. Balance is broken.
He shook his head, trying to dispel the unease. Dreams were just dreams. Weren't they?
The small house was bustling by the time Kael made his way downstairs. His father, a burly man with a booming laugh, was already seated at the table, tearing into a loaf of bread. Mira was setting out bowls of porridge, her expression unimpressed by their father's lack of table manners.
"Morning, lad!" his father greeted him. "You sleep well?"
"Something like that," Kael replied, taking a seat.
The day passed uneventfully, filled with chores and the usual rhythm of life in their quiet village. But Kael couldn't shake the feeling that something was coming.
That night, as he lay in bed, he noticed something strange. A faint glow emanated from the corner of his room. Sitting up, Kael's breath caught.
There, on the floor, lay a shard of crystal. It pulsed with a soft light, as if alive.
Kael reached out, his fingers trembling. The moment he touched it, a wave of warmth and energy surged through him. Visions of the glass bridge and the shadowy figure flashed before his eyes.
And then he heard the voice again.
"Your journey begins."
The shard flared with light, and Kael's room was plunged into darkness.
