I thought I had it all. The perfect job, the perfect husband, the perfect family, the perfect life. Everything in my life was rosy until one day, I find out that my husband and sister have been sleeping with each other and my perfect world came crashing down. I was feeling rather hurt and betrayed but even more than that, I was furious because they had no remorse and after divorcing him, they get married. I made a promise to make them pay for making a fool out of me and with the help of Ian Miller, billionaire heir and business tycoon, I was ready to get back at them and make them regret ever betraying me.
It was already 10 pm and Martin had still not gotten back from work, causing Nicole to worry.
She had already tried to call him several times but he wasn't picking up his call and this made her very worried because he usually never takes this long to pick up her calls and whenever he had to stay out late, he would always make sure to inform her beforehand.
Nicole wasn't one to overthink things in situations like this but for some reason, she kept having a bad feeling that something was going on and it made her restless to the point where she knew she could not stay behind and do nothing.
She quickly got dressed and decided to head to his office even though she knew that Martin didn't like it when she showed up at his office without informing him first. She could no longer refrain from going because she wasn't sure what was going on with him and she knew that his office was the first place she had to check before thinking of other places to check for him.
After driving for about half an hour, her black sedan car finally came to a halt in front of her husband's company building and a worried look formed on her face when she looked at the place. She quickly brought out her phone and called his number once again but after ringing and ringing, he still didn't pick up his phone and she just proceeded to go in to make sure.
She walked into the company and she immediately noticed that there weren't that many people around but she had expected it since it was already past 10 p.m. and most of the employees would have gone home by this time except the security guards.
She got into the elevator and headed straight to the 15th floor where Martin's office was. When she arrived, she noticed that Martin's secretary wasn't in her seat and she wouldn't have found it weird if it wasn't that she knew that Martin does not let his secretary leave the office before him.
She decided to ignore it and slowly turned on the doorknob, just in case Martin was busy in his office and didn't want to be interrupted.
"Ahh. Harder, baby.... Keep pounding me right there!" Nicole heard as soon as she turned the door open halfway.
She immediately froze on the spot, not wanting to believe that what she was hearing was real. It felt as though she had stopped breathing for a few long seconds and everything around her started to get blurry.
She sharply inhaled and exhaled, pushing the door open further so that she could confirm whether or not she was really just hearing things or if what she thought was happening was happening.
She finally gathered the courage to push the door open completely and her eyes grew ten times wider when she was met with the familiar faces of both her husband and her younger sister, having sex on his office table.
She could not bring herself to say anything or do anything for a while as she was still in complete disbelief and she felt even worse when they didn't even notice that she had walked in on them because they were too engrossed in having sex and moaning like two crazed people.
"Martin, Elena," Nicole managed to call out when she could no longer stand the fact that they were busy enjoying themselves at her expense.
Martin and Elena halted what they were doing and turned their heads when they noticed that someone had walked in on them. At first, Martin had a surprised look on his face as he wasn't expecting his wife to suddenly show up but as for Elena, she had a nonchalant look on her face, almost as though she had been waiting for her sister to finally find out.
"N...Nikki," Martin stuttered, pulling himself out of Elena, who let out a soft moan, and hurriedly searched for his shorts to cover himself up.
"What's going on here, Martin? W...why are you and my sister fucking in your damn office while I've been trying to reach you for over two hours?" Nicole asked, saying the first words that came to mind since she still wasn't in her right senses.
She never expected that she would find herself in such a situation and even though she was furious at the moment, she knew better than to attack either one of them. So she stood still and patiently waited to hear an explanation even though she knew that nothing they said could justify what she had seen.
"I...I don't know what to tell you, Nikki but I hope you understand," Martin responded, causing Nicole to furrow her brows in confusion.
"W...what did you just say?" she asked, hoping she heard wrong.
Nicole knew that the best thing she could have done for herself was just walk out on both of them and then try to get herself together but something in her was choosing to stay to listen to their explanation and as soon as she heard Martin mention that he hoped she understood, she knew staying behind was a bad idea.
"Exactly what you heard, Nicole. I know you're probably hurt right now and you also can't believe your eyes but what you saw now is something that you were bound to find out about sooner or later and it's high time you come to know that Martin and I love each other and we hope you come to understand despite how you might be feeling at the moment," Elena chimed in, not bothering to pretend to be sympathetic towards her sister.
She knew that Martin might be concerned about her sister's feelings but she couldn't bring herself to care about how her sister was feeling because she had always waited for this moment and she couldn't be happier that her relationship with Martin was finally going to become official.
Nicole wanted to say something but nothing was coming to mind and she just stood there, replaying Elena's words over and over again in her head. She didn't want to believe that the sister she had grown up with all her life had just said something that ridiculous to her and it all felt like she was having a terrible nightmare that she needed to wake up from as soon as possible.
"Let me do the talking, babe," Martin whispered to Elena but Nicole had heard him loud and clear and her heart broke even more when she heard him call her sister 'babe' right in front of her.
"What exactly do you want to say to me, Martin? What explanation can you give me for this nonsense? You and I have been married for almost a year now and all of a sudden, I'm hearing from my own sister that you're in love with her? What's this all about? What sort of madness is going on here?" Nicole questioned, raising her voice a little more than she intended to.
"I'm aware that nothing I say is going to make you feel any better but I'm going to be honest with you because I believe you deserve that at the very least. My marriage with you wasn't supposed to happen and you know it. I had to force myself to marry you even though I loved another woman, who happens to be your sister. She and I are very much in love and we've been together for quite a while now," Martin confessed.
The strong urge to cry hit Nicole at once but she struggled to hold back her tears for the time being.
"So what you're trying to say right now is that for the eleven months that you and I have been married, you've never genuinely been in love with me and all this while, you and my sister have been together behind my back? Is that it, Martin?" she questioned shakily.
She knew she didn't have to keep listening to this but she wanted to hear it for herself because listening to him say things like this was only going to make the situation even more real to her and she needed exactly that.
She couldn't believe that she had been married to such a bastard without realising it and the fact that she had genuinely loved him with all her heart despite the fact that it also took her a while to accept the idea of getting married to him, made her feel even more bitter.
"It's the truth, Nicole and as much as it hurts me to have to say this to you, your marriage with Martin was never real and his heart has always been with me. I hope you come to understand that as soon as possible because now that you know that we love each other, we're no longer gonna be happy in secret," Elena replied to her and Nicole had heard enough.
She could no longer stand to hear her sister shamelessly throwing it to her face that she had been sleeping with her husband and Elena's words were all she needed to hear to reach her breaking point.
"I hope you two rot in hell," she muttered shakily, before turning to leave but Martin's last words made her pause briefly.
"I hope you find happiness one day," he remarked and without thinking, Nicole pulled one leg of her heels off and directly threw it at Martin, aiming for his head.
"Fuck you!" she yelled furiously, walking out of the office and slamming the door as hard as she could.
With only one leg of her heels, she walked outside the building to where she had parked her car, making sure she held back her tears until she was out of the place.
She finally let out the tears she had been holding when she got into her car and the only thing she could think of was how happy her own sister looked despite her betrayal and the pathetic look her now ex-husband had on his face. How shameless of them!
