Chapter 1 First encounter.

Elena's POV

“Aunt, I'm off now” I shouted from our small living room.

I hear aunt's footsteps rushing towards me.

“Don't go without my blessings” aunt said.

I smiled and bent to her level, and she quickly placed a kiss on my right cheek, which I mentally rolled my eyeballs at because she does this every and any time I'm about to go out, something about her passing good luck unto me -elderly people and their superstition beliefs.

“May you find a kind-hearted, god-fearing, rich and handsome husband soon, may you….”

I cut her off with my laughter, she stopped and glared daringly at me.

“Aunt, I still have a lot of time. I don't want to think about marriage, or finding a husband just yet” I told her.

She rolled her eyes and shook her head at my dumb words (well, she always thinks my speeches are dumb), then smacked me on my back.

“Don't jinx yourself. You know how much I want to see you happy, and besides, I want you to get married soon and give me many grandkids”.

Hmm. Ok, that's literally her greatest wish, ever.

But I really wonder who on earth would want to marry me, I'm not educated and beauty isn't something I'm gifted with either.

Though I can read a bit by bit, but I don't know anything about class -I'm not classic at all.

“Elena, are you listening to me?” Aunt's question pulled me back to reality.

I nod slowly, and show her my brightest smile.

“Yes, aunt. I'm listening”.

“Then why aren't you answering Amen to everything I've been saying?” She asked, eyeing me.

“I did” I replied.

Aunt scoffed and sat on the only sofa we have in our house.

“I didn't hear you” she said sulkily.

I sigh. “Amen!” I said.

You see, my aunt is a childless widow. Her husband died of cancer 15 years ago.

So, when my parents died in an accident, she took me in and cared for me like a real mother. Though she's poor, she always tries her very best to make me happy, and I'm genuinely grateful to her.

I begin to massage her shoulder gently.

“Don't worry, aunt. I'll bring home a wealthy, god-fearing, strong and handsome gentlemen one of these days” I confidently assured her, as if it's that easy to pick up a man with so many good qualities.

But she beamed brightly because I've just said exactly what she wanted to hear.

“Good! So… "

“I'm off now” I cut her off politely, and ran out before she'd start with her lectures.

“This girl” I heard her muttered, but didn't turn back.

The December breeze slapped my face, and blew past my ears as I jumped and sung happily in my melodious voice -yeah, my voice is the only thing I'm proud of.

Well, I'm currently on my way to a birthday party, it's actually a kid's birthday party, but I was hired to perform some kiddies songs.

I arrived at the place in no time. I pressed the doorbell and waited patiently for someone to come out.

The door opens and a middle-aged woman steps out, she's wearing a white and black striped uniform, so I knew at once she's the nanny here.

“Good afternoon, ma'am” I greet her.

“Good afternoon, my dear. Are you looking for someone?” She asked me.

“Uh… I'm the singer who was hired to perform here” I told her.

“Oh, I see. Please hold on a second, let me confirm with my boss” she said.

I nodded and she rushed back inside. After waiting for a few minutes, she came out again, but with a lady and a little boy this time.

The boy's dressed in fancy clothes, and he held a balloon in his left hand, he must be the birthday boy.

“Ma'am, this is the girl” the nanny said.

The lady smiled at me warmly, and I smiled back, she has this welcoming aura around her.

“Dear, you were a bit late, our boy couldn't wait that long, so we hired someone else” she said.

My shoulders swayed down, and I pouted in disappointment, immediately she said those words.

“What about I perform after her?” I asked suggestively, with a hopeful smile.

But then, the little boy stepped forward and pushed me back.

Wow, he's stronger than his age.

“No! I don't want you to sing at my party, you're dirty” his eyes were zeroed on a spot on my dress.

I looked down at my sundress, and saw a big red stain on it, which made me frown, as I wondered where I got the stain from.

“Zion, don't say that” his mother cautioned him. “Now apologize to her” she ordered him.

But he simply glared at me even more, scoffed and turned around, then stormed inside, leaving his mother gaping at his behavior.

What a spoiled brat, I thought he'd be respectful since he's a cutie, but I guessed wrong.

His mother turned back to me with an apologetic smile.

“Please excuse my boy's manner, I really do apologize”

I wave her off with a small smile.

“It's no problem at all. He's still a kid after all” I told her.

She nodded.

“Thanks for your understanding” she said.

“So, I'm going to go” I told her.

“Ok, until next time”

I just smiled, and walked away.

I reach a cross road.

This is one of the busiest roads in our country, I get scared most times when I want to cross this road because I might get knocked down if I'm not watchful enough.

The place where I do my singing and dancing is right across the road, so no matter how scared I am, I have no choice but to cross.

Just when we were about crossing, I saw an old woman who's finding it hard to cross. I walked over to her and took her hand.

“Good afternoon, granny” I greeted her politely.

“Good afternoon, my dear” she replied.

I quickly checked out her clothes, and realized she didn't look like a poor woman because she's dressed in simple, yet expensive clothes and jewelries.

I smile, this is my only wish, I wish my aunt can dress like this one day.

“Granny, do you want to cross to the other side?” I asked her.

“ Yes, can you please help me?”

“Sure” I answered, and her eyes shone in appreciation.

I watched the road, when I noticed it wasn't as rushed as before, I gently pulled her with me, until we were safely on the other side.

“Thanks my dear” she thanked me.

“Don't thank me, granny. It's something I have to do” I replied.

She smiles and pats me on my back gently.

Just then, a Lamborghini stops in front of us. The driver stepped out, and approached us.

I stared at the car with my mouth wide open, don't tell me she owns this car.

Just how rich is this old woman exactly?

“My dear, my ride is here, I hope to see you next time” she said to me.

“If it's meant to be” I simply replied.

Then she entered the car. Just when the car was about to drive away, I saw her purse on the ground.

I picked it up and rushed towards the car, I tapped the window and she winds down.

“What is it, dear?”

I raised the purse.

“Your purse fell down” I said.

“Oh, thanks. You are a good girl, may God bless you” she said and the driver drives off.

I sigh and walk to my spot. Then I start my singing and dancing.

It wasn't long, and a large crowd had already gathered around me, some were clapping theirs hands, some singing along with me, and others were standing silently and listening to me.

After I finish my performance, they begin to put money in my cap, which I had put on the ground in front of me earlier. Soon they were all gone, I bent down and picked my cap and money.

I straightened up, and just when I was about turning around to go sit on a small bench at a corner, I collided with someone and we both fell to the ground.

Fear gripped me, and I closed my eyes while falling down, hoping I'd kiss the ground, but fortunately for me and unfortunately for him, I fell on him instead.

When I opened my eyes, I couldn't help or do anything to hide the smile that spread on my face because I realized a Greek god was staring right at me. His gray eyes stared into mine, his pink kissable lips parted slightly, and a smirk played on his face.

It seemed like my hands suddenly had a mind of their own and I couldn't control them, I found myself reaching for his face and caressing his very smooth cheeks -it's very smooth that I was tempted to take a bite, but I refrained myself.

“Miss, are you ok?” He asked in his deep, but smooth velvet voice.
