Luna Freida looked back over her shoulder as she ran through the woods at full pace. She was in wolf form and was flanked by the Blood Dawn pack's Beta, Fitz, also in wolf form. They were frantic and trying to escape the violent blood bath they had just witnessed. Luna Freida was still in shock at the brutality of the attack she was a victim of. Her long tan wolf mane, stained with blood, waved in the air as she panted in a panic.
She stopped briefly to gain her perspective. She had run at full speed away from her pack and was now just outside of a small farmer's town that rested on the southern border of the pack. She could smell the scent of humans nearby and knew she was running out of options. She could hear the howling of the pack of rogue wolves behind her, gaining on her and Fitz.
She tried to evaluate her situation. She closed her eyes for a second as the fresh memory of the bloody and brutal death of her husband flashed in her head. "Not the Alpha"... she cried internally. But, She had no time to mourn him. She had to get her precious cargo to safety and she was running out of time. She looked to her left and could make out a small humble cabin nearby. She glanced at Fitz and motioned toward the cabin. He nodded in understanding. He carefully took the bundle from her teeth and took off toward the cabin.
The sounds of the rogues were getting closer, and Fitz knew this was the only way. He dropped the bundle near a woodpile toward the back of the cabin and took off in the opposite direction. He met back up with Luna Freida and gave a curt nod. She shook away a wave of overwhelming grief and she and Fitz started running away from the cabin.
After a few minutes of running, the Luna and her Beta found themselves surrounded by the pack of rogues. Fitz and Freida bore their teeth and stood back to back in wolf form, ready to fight to the death. The rogue wolves were still coming out of the woods by the dozen. They were severely outnumbered by the rogues. Freida, being the brave Luna of The Blood Dawn pack, gave one last longing glance toward the direction of the cabin and then attacked the nearest Rogue. Fitz, following her lead grabbed the throat of a rogue that was lunging at him. He was naturally stronger than these wolves, but he was outnumbered. Freida and Fitz fought valiantly against the rogues, tossing Bloody bodies to the side. Just then, an extra large black wolf came into view. He snarled at Freida and attacked her viciously. He grabbed her throat and shook her tired body until it was listless. Fitz howled and ran toward his Luna. The large black wolf butted heads with him and rendered him unconscious.
An hour or more had passed and Fitz slowly opened his eyes. Luna Freida lay in a pool of blood in front of him. His leg was badly injured so he crawled toward his Luna's body. He whimpered as he neared her and the smell of her blood filled his nose. He nuzzled her cheek to see if she would respond. To his surprise, Frieda's eyes fluttered softly. He nuzzled her again. She slightly opened her eyes and a moan escaped her lips. Fitz knew she was mortally wounded and bowed his head in honor of her life. Frieda's eyes glazed over and just as she breathed her last breath, she whispered to Fitz, "watch over him".
My world revolved around Jax Harding, my older brother's captivating rockstar friend. From sixteen, I adored him; at eighteen, I clung to his casual promise: "When you're 22, maybe I'll settle down." That offhand comment became my life's beacon, guiding every choice, meticulously planning my twenty-second birthday as our destiny. But on that pivotal day in a Lower East Side bar, clutching my gift, my dream exploded. I overheard Jax' s cold voice: "Can't believe Savvy's showing up. She' s still hung up on that stupid thing I said." Then the crushing plot: "We' re gonna tell Savvy I' m engaged to Chloe, maybe even hint she' s pregnant. That should scare her off." My gift, my future, slipped from my numb fingers. I fled into the cold New York rain, devastated by betrayal. Later, Jax introduced Chloe as his "fiancée" while his bandmates mocked my "adorable crush"-he did nothing. As an art installation fell, he saved Chloe, abandoning me to severe injury. In the hospital, he came for "damage control," then shockingly shoved me into a fountain, leaving me to bleed, calling me a "jealous psycho." How could the man I loved, who once saved me, become this cruel and publicly humiliate me? Why was my devotion seen as an annoyance to be brutally extinguished with lies and assault? Was I just a problem, my loyalty met with hatred? I would not be his victim. Injured and betrayed, I made an unshakeable vow: I was done. I blocked his number and everyone connected to him, severing ties. This was not an escape; this was my rebirth. Florence awaited, a new life on my terms, unburdened by broken promises.
