They said the board wants to speak with you." I didn't move for a second. Then I stood. Walked. My feet were heavy. My body felt numb. The boardroom smelled like leather and tension. Twelve people. Two packs. One hospital owned by the Thorne Conglomerate run under strict supervision by Alpha bloodlines. This wasn't just any hospital. This was Silverclaw, the only fully licensed supernatural facility in the region. Humans weren't allowed past the first floor. The rest of us operated by scent, instinct, rank. And I was at the bottom again. Selene sat across the table, perfectly calm. Her white coat pristine. Her nails painted. She looked like she had rehearsed for this. Chairwoman Harper began, voice formal. "We're reviewing the tragic passing of Mr. Collins. Several staff members have submitted statements. One noted your decision to intervene without clearance." I opened my mouth to explain, but Selene stood first. "Let's call this what it was," she said, cool and poised. "Lyra acted recklessly. No approval. No assigned supervisor. She endangered a patient. The outcome was fatal." My heart kicked hard in my chest. "That's not true," I said, voice low. "I made a judgment call to save him. He had no pulse. No one else was there-" "You were an intern," she cut in. "Not certified. Not assigned. This was a breach of code and chain of command." I could barely breathe. "Selene..." My voice cracked. "Why are you doing this?" She blinked innocently. "I'm just telling the truth." A board member leaned forward. "Do you deny acting outside your rank?" "I did," I said. "Because no one else was there. I saved him. He was alive when I left that room." Another mutter from the board. Selene crossed her arms. "You wanted attention. Or maybe to impress Leon. Or embarrass me. You've been acting unstable ever since the Gala-" Something inside me snapped. "Unstable?" I said, rising to my feet. "You want to talk about unstable?" The room froze. "You stole my scent." There. It was out. Silence. "You drugged me. You masked your own scent and stole mine so Leon would think you were his mate." Stillness. Shock. Confusion. Chairwoman Harper's eyes narrowed. "Excuse me?"
