e returned the letter to its envelope, Jamie made a decision. She would talk to Alex. Perhaps it was time to confront her feelings, just as her mother had done years ago. Little did she know, this choice would set off a chain of events that would bring her closer to both her own heart and her family's hidden stories. With newfound determination, Jamie headed downstairs. The house was quiet, save for the soft hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen. She could hear her little brother, Max, playing video games in the living room. As she passed by, she caught a glimpse of his focused expression on the screen, his fingers flying over the controller. "Hey, Jamie! Wanna watch me beat this level?" he called out, his voice brimming with excitement. "Maybe later, Max," she replied, a small smile creeping onto her face. She loved how easily he could immerse himself in his world. It reminded her of simpler times, when she and Alex would spend hours playing games together, laughing and teasing each other without a care in the world. Jamie made her way to the kitchen, where Sarah was preparing lunch. The smell of grilled cheese filled the air, making her stomach growl. Her mom turned to her, a smile lighting up her face. "Hey, sweetheart! Did you find anything interesting in the attic?" "Just some old stuff," Jamie said, trying to downplay the significance of the letter. "How was your day?" "Oh, you know, the usual," Sarah replied, flipping the sandwiches. Her eyes sparkled with warmth, but Jamie could see a hint of nostalgia lurking behind them. "Just organizing things and reminiscing a bit." Jamie felt a surge of curiosity but held back from revealing her discovery. Instead, she helped her mom set the table, her mind racing with thoughts of Alex. What if he didn't feel the same way? What if their friendship couldn't survive the change? After lunch, Jamie decided to head outside to clear her head. The rain had stopped, leaving the world glistening and fresh.
