Nathan walked the path back towards his house hating having to say goodbye to Brooke. He realized that they’d been together twice that day already, but he felt as if he would never tire of having her. The yard was empty as he approached his house. He felt a weird sense of eeriness as he took in the calmness of the night that seemed so quiet that it was unsettling. He shook off the eeriness, telling himself that it was because the yard had been full of people, noise, and activity not too long before. It would just take some adjustment, and the unsettling quiet was something to just get used to.
