Ava`s POV
I howled loudly in the darkness of the woods. I kept running endlessly, the night wind blowing my fur, it was winter, but I didn't dare to care. I felt my body hit a tree and I stumbled backwards. My vision became so blurry, but I didn't stop. I didn't dare to because I knew I had to die.
I laid on my back and faced the sky, panting really hard. I could hear some growls from a distance. I guess I have made it far enough. The rouges must have found me. Relief flooded my mind, just one slash, and it was all going to end. Then I smelt the air and furrowed my brow. It was the unmistakable smell.
The very smell that got me into hell ended up drowning inside. I knew I had to make an attack. That was the only way I wouldn't be dragged back into my miserable life. I managed to get up and scan my surroundings. He was close enough, and I could feel it in my gut. Then I saw it emerge from the shadow, big and glowing. It moved meticulously. I guess it had sensed my presence. I pounced on him and launched to tear off its throat. Maybe my anger could have been suicide, but he fended off my attack so easily.
I managed to dig my left claw into his arm, but he didn't release me, neither did he attack. He pinned me down and kept me there, right on top of me. He shifted back to his human form and so did I. Just like in the old times, we both stayed still, basking in each other's warmth till I felt his bulging erection on my stomach, so I threw him off me.
"Ava, you are hurt"
He tried to touch me, but I slapped his hand away, fresh anger caused through my body. I smacked him across the face. Why was he even here? I knew Derek could always tame me, but not today. Today, I just want to kill or be killed. We both sat there for minutes in silence when we heard the growls. They had finally come, the rouges I was desperately waiting for.
"We have to leave here now Ava, we are outside the border and not..."
The word hadn't left Derek's mouth when a big wolf pounced on him. He had to shift back to his wolf form and fight back. They tussled endlessly while I waited for his companions to take me, but none came over. I was so disappointed. I watched my ex-boyfriend getting his ass kicked by a mere rogue. I was thrilled, and I hoped he gets killed then we could call it even.
I was so distracted that I didn't notice we had been surrounded. Unfortunately, it was the Alpha's guards, my husband, Ryan Denkov. The beta held three heads in his grasp and the rogue cowered at the sight. He got off Derek and tried to escape but was hunted down and decapitated. From the back, Ryan emerged in all his glory looking as dashing as ever. He threw a casual glance at my naked body and removed his jacket to cover me up.
"I didn't know Luna's disappearance was your doing"
He said with obvious disdain and Derek cowered under his gaze. He tried to explain himself, but I saw my husband's claw already emerging. Derek wasn't his to kill, he was mine, I had to save him.
"Wait! I got lost, and he found me". I effortlessly made up the perfect cover-up.
Pamela rushed out of the woods; I hadn't noticed her presence, that sly bitch! She rushed into Derek's arm, putting pressure on his wound. Three years ago, he had chosen to marry her and jilted me. I couldn't take the humiliation. My mother was dying, I had to save her. Ryan came with a magnificent offer of marriage and I agreed without hesitation.
He was the perfect husband any woman could pray to have until... this night when I finally fit in all the pieces of the puzzle.
"Let us head back to the mansion".
Ryan moved closer to me. With each step he took, my wolf growled, but I had to lock her up in my subconscious mind. He whisked me up and carried me in his arms as he had always done for the past three years, he would make love to me all night long and sleep off in my warmth. Little did I know he had murdered my mother.
"I will ensure your mother gets the best treatment possible". That was his word to me, and I never knew he was planning to harvest her organ.
Our return to the mansion didn't take long. I was famished, anger had drained my energy. We got back to the room and Ryan dumped me on the bed. He tore off the jacket I had on like a maniac and forcefully penetrated me. It was rough, fast and painful. All the memories come rushing back into my head.
The sweet wedding vows, the romantic gestures, the mind-blowing sex; I never knew I had handed my birthright to my greatest hater. He kept pounding me hard, but I didn't fight back. I was too weak to fight back. He poured his juice into me and mumbled some words that I could barely comprehend.
I knew Derek could lose his head that night and a worthless Luna like me was too powerless to prevent it. I couldn't believe I had read the chats right, Ryan had saved Pamela's sister with my mother's kidney. They had been warming each other's beds all these years. Why did she marry Derek? I still couldn't wrap my head around it all. Was Derek in the knowing? I couldn't be certain, but the only thing I am certain of is that I am going to murder my husband.
