Lysas pov
"Why can't you stay the night?" Fred my boyfriend asks, his tone sullen as I put on my t-shirt.
I don't bother to turn and look at him before I reply, his frown is the last thing I want to see.
I shove my phone charger into my bag and search for my lip gloss before finally replying.
"I told you Fred, I have a big order getting picked up early tomorrow, and I want to be there when they come to pick it up" I finally turn to him. I was right, there is a frown on his face.
"You can just leave from my place" He's leaning against his pillow, his barely concealed chest looks so good and it takes all my will power to pull my eyes away from his body.
"I don't have clothes I can wear to work here" I say, I pick my bag from the table it had been on and slip my feet into my slippers.
"You're the boss Lys, nobody cares what you wear" Fred is stubborn and unrelenting about letting me go.
Fortunately for me, I'm also a stubborn person.
"I'll text you later babe" I ignore his suggestion to dress however I like to work.
He sighs, finally giving in.
"I'll win the next argument" he says grauchily getting up and stretching his muscles.
A little laugh escapes me and I stand on my tiptoe to plant a kiss on his cheek.
"I'm driving your car to my place, you can get it at the shop tomorrow " I inform him while holding his hand and looking into his eyes, trying to look innocent.
A groan escapes him as he throws his head back.
Unfortunately for me I do not have a car, I used the savings I had for a car to get a little delivery vehicle for the pastry shop and I refuse to drive it around when I'm not working.
It's a terrifying pink and has all sorts of flowers painted on it, it wasn't my choice for the design but I lost a bet to my cousin, Judy.
"Please babe, I have loads of books to take to the shop tomorrow and they're so heavy" I lie, it's not exactly a lie though, I do have books to take to the store. Three 100 page paperbacks.
"Okay babe, I don't mind"
I smile, I knew he'd agree, Fred loves me very much, almost as much as I love him.

Lysas pov
"Lys, those croissants are selling like crazy" my assistant baker, Tracy says as she enters the kitchen.
"I'll start on a new dough when I'm done with this" I Inform her as I carefully design the top of a cupcake.
She nods and start to head back to the front counter.
"Wait, Trace" I stop her. "Has the birthday cake been picked up yet?"
She shakes her head, her little braids shaking slightly too.
"Not yet, I've had two customers ask if they could buy it"
I kiss my teeth in irritation, the message I received from the person who ordered it clearly said they'd be here to pick it up at 7 sharp, it's why I had to come in early today.
"That's fine, thanks" I say to Tracy.
I finish with the decorations on the cupcakes and decide to go to the counter to check out what pastries are still left.
Tracey is attending to a customer and the barrister, Dylan is seated playing with his phone.
I decide to not say anything about it.
I'm about to go back to the kitchen when the unmistakable jingle of the bell at the door rings.
I look up and in walks a man with a tailored suit and dark glasses holding the hands of a little girl with curly blonde hair.
I decide to handle this customer as Tracy is still busy, I wipe my hand on my apron and put on a pair of clean gloves as the walk to the counter.
My signature smile is already on my lips when they reach.
"Hi, welcome to Lysas sweets, what can I get for you?" I ask.
The little girl beams at me, showing two teeth missing from the top, she has such a beautiful smile.
"Hi!" She near screams, buzzing excitement. "My name is Charlie"
My smile widens even more. "Hello Charlie, what would you like to get?"
She looks at the man I'm assuming is her father and he finally speaks, his voice gruff.
"We're here to pick up a cake, we ordered it a week ago"
My smile falters slightly as I realise they're the people who made me come way too early.
"Of course, give me a minute" I say to them. I go over to where Tracy is, she's done with her customer
"Trace, can you get the birthday cake from the fridge please"
She looks over to man and his daughter and let's out a low whistle.
"Now that's one man that looks amazing in a suit" She says her eyes still on them.
I roll my eyes and head back to them.
"My assistant is packing it, she'll bring it over when she's done"
The man simply nods, still holding on to the girls hand tightly.
The little girl looks up at him, blue eyes shining. "May I have a cupcake?"
I almost "aww" at loud because of how cute she is.
He looks at me. "We'll have 5 cupcakes to go please " he says.
I nod my head and start packing their order, careful to pick out cupcakes with colorful designs.
"I need to pee" she says.
"You'll have to wait till we get home" he says.
Tracy walks over and carefully hands over the cake to the man, he takes it with one hand, still holding his daughter with the other.
"But I need to pee now!" She demands, her little face frowning.
I clear my throat before the man can reply, he turns to me.
"Our toilets are clean, she can use them" I tell him.
"It's not private, anybody can walk in there" he says as he pays for the cupcakes.
"We have a private one in the back room, for the staffs only, I'd be happy to take her there" I say.
Little Charlie looks up at her father hopefully.
He sighs but let's go of her arm.
"Please be quick "
She immediately dashes behind the counter and I lead her into the back room.
I stand outside the bathroom, waiting for her to be done.
I only open the door when I heat water rushing, to make sure she washes her hands properly.
"You're so nice" she says as she seems me enter.
I smile. "Thank you Charlie"
She's still washing her hand.
"I'll tell you a secret because you're my friend now, my name isn't Charlie " she says.
I cock an eyebrow at her.
"Oh really?" I indulge her, my tone playeful. I'm fully awaiting her to yell something like "princess of.." or some imaginary name.
"Yeah " she says nodding. "My name is Genesis. Genesis Skye Williamson"
Oh, that was not what I expected.
Maybe she is honest, and Charlie isn't her real name. Nonetheless, it's none of my business.
"Okay now, your hands her all clean, your daddys waiting for you "
I say turning of the tap.
She giggles. "That's Richard, that's not my dad"
Oh, I fully assumed he was her father, the way he was very protective of her.
I notice the sleeves to her sweater are wet.
"Oh no, your sleeves are wet"
"That's fine, I'll just take them off" She takes off her pink sweater and beams at me again.
"Alright little one, let's go"
I hold her hand and lead her back to the counter.
Her father, I mean Richard seems relieved to see her in one piece.
She heads over to him and he takes her wet jacket from her.
He nods at me as if to say thank you and they both turn around to leave.
Her long curly hair bouncing as she leaves
The hair seems to disturb her, because she stops and takes a scrunchy from the little purse she held and put her hair in an atrocious ponytail.
Wait, what is that on her neck?
I feel my heart beat faster, as I squint my eyes trying to see better.
"Wait!" I yell out to them.
Surprising everyone, they turn around and Richard has an annoyed look on his face.
I quickly package a cupcake and rush to them.
I quickly hand Richard a cupcake.
"Complimentary cupcake" I say, I'm aware I'm speaking too fast and I'm aware my eyes are om Charlie.
She looks at me and smile.
Richard mutters a thank you and they turn around.
And I see it, clear as day.
A brown birthmark In the shape of a heart, a little below her neck.
The exact same birth mark I have.
I watch them enter their car and leave and I'm frozen.
