LENA
I would much rather die in my sneakers than be caught dead wearing those stilettos.
I thought Throwing my BFF Rachel a scalded glare I already know how she is when she dares to get into MY closet.
"Come on, Len! You need some reprieve from the darkness. Just let loose One night," Rachel said casually as she dangled a sleek black dress she had chosen for me to wear, over her arm like the carcass of an animal.
I raised an eyebrow. "You know I have a job to do Tomorrow."
Rachel's smile was devilish. "Which is exactly why you must come tonight. To forget, to live...and this sexy dress is the way."
Though I sighed at that moment, Rachel was infectiously zealous. I relented, taking the dress.
I caught sight of myself in the mirror as I zipped up the fitted gown, gaze grazing over my reflection.
For tonight I would give up my assassin's cloak For one night of glitter and smiles.
"Who knew the best killer in the world could clean up so nicely? Rachel teased.
My eyes locked onto her's. " do not think I I've forgotten, what I am Rach. Tomorrow, I'll be the one pulling the strings, not Dancing on them."
Rachel's playfulness quickly faded. "I know, Len. But not, tonight...just Lena, not Lethal."
A final adjustment to my dress, I disappeared with the night - but only momentarily from my shadows.
If only I knew that, one night would lead to one mistake that would wreck my life forever.
------------------------
I and Rachel step out of the the sleek Lamborghini that she had chosen for us to drive to the club.
We got out and walked right pass the long line of people queued up to enter the most popular club in New York. The Velvet Rouge.
One of the Perks of being part of a popular Mafia was that you could get into any nightclub you wanted.
My best friend Rachel is the sister of The Ravenna Mafia. It was run by Rachel's elder sister. It was rare to see a Mafia city headed by a woman, but needless to say Savannah had earned her title as Mafia by, killing her entire family except Rachel in cold blood.
Rumor has it that she and Rachel were abused by her father and brothers so Savannah took revenge by killing them. Serves them right.
Rachel showed the bodyguards her mafia's insignia, which was a Phoenix and we were immediately let in.
We walked through the doors of the club and were immediately hit with the blaring sound of rock music and the odour of sweat mixed with alcohol.
I smile to myself. This is going to be interesting.
I and Rachel push through the throng of people on the dance floor and get to the bar. We call over the bartender and he comes.
"So what would you sexy ladies like to order?" He asks while checking out Rachel.
The bartender was fine as fuck, but He wasn't my type. I prefer dark, brooding and mysterious, with a dash of danger.
"Two glasses of seduction and two sinners shot." Rachel said using her best sultry voice.
I rolled my eyes. The bartender got called over by another customer and he excuses himself promising to be back.
I grab the glass Infront of me swirled the drink as Rachel turned to me and squealed. "Oh my God Len, he so fucking hot."
I downed the drink in one gulp before answering. "Yeah he is, but you know he's not my type." Her enthusiasm dies and she rolls her eyes.
"Yeah your type are psycho's. Seriously Len when have you ever dated a guy that didn't try to kill after you broke up with them."
I smiled and grabbed the shot. "You can't judge me for being too good for them." I say then glup down the shot.
"Woah, go easy on the alcohol. We don't want you wasted before you get laid." Rachel says pushing away my hand that was already reaching for her drink.
"Rachel give it up already. You've tried times without number to get me laid every time we go out but it always ends up with some perv getting a broken nose. I honestly do not trust your judge of character when you're drunk."
Rachel gasp feigning hurt. "The only reason why I have to help you is because.........."
Rachel's monotony is drowned out when I feel the hairs on my neck stand.
You know how I like dark, brooding, dangerous and mysterious guys. Yeah, I also had a knick for sensing how dangerous a person is. I don't know if it was due to intense training or just my intuition but somehow, I knew and I was never wrong.
I felt him before I even saw him. My mysterious, brooding, sexy stranger. Everything about him screamed danger. The scar on left cheek bone, the cold dead look in his piercing blue eyes and the smudge of blood on his collar.
He looked like someone nobody would dare cross and that was the very reason. He was going to be the one making me moan tonight.
"Hello? Earth to Lena. You're not even listening to me." Rachel says breaking my me from my thoughts.
"I'm sorry Rach, what were you saying." She pauses and stares at me.
"I know that look, that gleam in your eye, I've seen it a thousand times." Rachel says still staring at me.
I shake my head and order for two more shots. "I have no head what your talking about."
Rachel gasps. "That the look you get when you spot your prey." She groans. "Please don't tell me I just helped you find another psycho that would possibly want to end your life."
I laughed at her antics. "Don't be ridiculous Rach. I'll always end them before they get a chance." I downed both of the shot that had been placed in front of me and turned to Rachel. "Let's dance"
She immediately takes grabs her drink and follows me to the dance floor. I push through the crowd till we're dancing directly in front of Mr danger.
I let down my waist length red hair, that I had pulled up in a messy bun and let the music and the alcohol do it's work.
I locked eye with him from across the dance floor where he was seated and desire pooled in my lower belly.
I danced like I was putting on a show for him, expecting him to join me on the dance floor, but he did the exact opposite.
He cocked his head to the side and mouthed two words. Two words that set my world spinning on its hinges. Two words that would lead to destruction of everything I had built.
"Come here."
