"I do"
Will you, Kaiden, take Lilian to your lawful wedded mate and wife, and love her only as long as you both live?
"I..I do" Kaiden stuttered.
The party was in full swing with most of the guests on the dance floor, gliding elegantly in their expensive frocks. The jewels that adorned most of the girls showed exactly what type of party it was. It was the type of party Lillian could have never dreamed of attending before now, much less being the main celebrant. So she sat still in her chair watching everything with concealed awe, present but not quite feeling like a part of the room. In fact she didn't feel like she belonged here at all, if anyone had told her a few days ago that she would be here, dressed in one of the most expensive dresses made from the finest satin material, decked in a diamond necklace, she wouldn't have believed it. More so, if they had told her she would be mated to the alpha prince of the Blue Moon pack, she would have told them they were crazy. But here she was at her mating ceremony to the alpha prince of the Blue Moon pack.
Lillian looked across the room, her eyes instantly locking on her mate, Kaiden. She remembered the first time they met clearly, he had told her then he wasn't interested in marrying her. She had thought that was it then, all her hopes of escaping her mediocre life dashed. But she was surprised when the alpha, Alpha Henrik of the Blood Moon pack, called her two days later to tell her the Blue Moon pack had picked a date for their mating ceremony. That was two weeks ago, she hadn't seen Kaiden again since then but seeing how he plainly ignored her today, his opinion of this marriage had clearly not changed.
"Lillian, dear", a feminine voice called and Lillian turned to see her parents in law, the alpha and luna of the Blue Moon pack, walking towards her.
"How are you holding up dear, are you tired?", Caroline, Kaiden's mother asked as she stroked her arm gently.
"I'm fine", Lillian shook her head with a shy smile.
Lillian didn't know why but Kaiden's parents had been really nice to her right from the first time they met, especially his mom.
"It's tiring, is it not?", Caroline said with a smile.
"I remember my own mating ceremony, it was a long affair. Where is Kaiden by the way?", she said.
At that, Lillian looked across the room to where Kaiden stood interacting with some guests. He had not been by her side for more than a few minutes since the mating ceremony began. Caroline followed her gaze to where Kaiden stood and shook her head.
"What is he doing? He should be by your side"
"He needs to interact with the guest, he's probably networking", Lillian replies hoping she sounded learned with that statement.
Caroline shook her head.
"You should be interacting with the guests together, you are the future luna of this pack", she said and Lillian's heart did a little somersault with that statement.
'Future Luna', it sounded strange to be referred to like that.
"Come, let's go to him", she said as she took Lillian's hand and led her to where Kaiden stood with some other guests.
Kaiden noticed them approaching when they were a few feet away. He frowned slightly when his gaze fell on Lillian.
"Luna", the men who stood with Kaiden bowed when they reached where they were.
Caroline smiled at them.
"No need for that my lords, it's just it seems my son Kaiden has forgotten his mate so I brought her here, to his side, where she should be", she said the last part with a pointed stare at Kaiden.
"Mom", Kaiden whispered.
"Of course, she is the future luna of the pack. Forgive me princess, I don't think we've been introduced yet", one of the men said as he bowed slightly to Lillian, an action that still made her giddy.
"I am Lord Eric, one of the members of the council", he introduced himself.
"And this is Lord Damson", he gestured at the other man and Lillian gave them a small smile.
"It's nice to meet you", she said, trying to sound as sophisticated as she could.
"I must say, the princess is indeed a beauty. In this room, you shine the brightest", Lord Damson complimented and Lillian blushed.
"Of course", a masculine voice cut in.
"Alpha Henrik", Lord Eric bowed at the newcomer.
It was all Lillian could do to stop herself from bowing as well.
Alpha Henrik joined the group and smiled brightly at Lillian.
"Only the best for the alpha prince", he said as he looked at Kaiden who forced a smile.
"I offered to find a mate for the prince, the least I could do is to find the best possible choice out there", he added.
"And you did, Lillian is lovely", Caroline complimented.
"Isn't that right, Kaiden?"
Kaiden was quiet the whole time and smiled at her.
"Indeed you did good, Alpha Henrik", Lord Damson commended.
"The least I could do for my new allies", he said as he raised his glass of champagne for a toast and they all clinked glasses.
"Kaiden, why don't you take Lillian to greet the other guests? Introduce her to them properly", Caroline suggested and there was a flash of irritation in Kaiden's eyes.
Lillian was sure he was going to refuse but to her surprise, he smiled at her and nodded.
"Yes, mother"
He offered Lillian his arm and she gently took it, hesitant. They excused themselves and walked across the ballroom which still felt like a dream to her.
Lillian let out a deep breath as she leaned against the balcony. She couldn't take it anymore and had finally found an opportunity to escape. She needed to catch her breath and the balcony was perfect. Kaiden had abandoned her as soon as his mother had stopped paying attention to them. She remembered the way he had shook her hands off instantly and walked away without a second glance at her. She sighed at the thought. This marriage was to be her escape, why did it feel like it wasn't going to be that easy?
Lillian suddenly felt a presence, she turned around to see Alpha Henrik standing behind her.
"Alpha Henrik", She called as she stared at him, startled.
Henrik stared at her, a cold look in his eyes.
"What? Have you forgotten yourself already?", he asked coldly and Lillian blinked in confusion.
"Or perhaps you expect me to bow? Seeing as you are now mated to the alpha prince", he added harshly and Lillian immediately realized her mistake.
She bowed immediately.
"Forgive me, my alpha, I'm just a little overwhelmed", Lillian apologized, keeping her head bowed.
"Hmph", Henrik scoffed as he began to circle her, his eyes on her.
"Future Luna, a nice thing to be called, isn't it?", he asked but Lillian knew better than to answer.
Henrik suddenly grabbed her hair and raised her head forcefully.
"You're not letting it get to your head, are you?", he asked harshly.
"N- No, my alpha", Lillian whimpered.
Henrik stared at her for a few seconds before letting her go.
"Good", he said as he stroked her hair tenderly.
Lillian stood still as he caressed her face, as he leaned in and placed his lips on hers. The balcony was dark and hidden, no one could see them, so she stood still, eyes open as he kissed her. Henrik finally leaned back after a few minutes and he looked her in the eyes.
"You must never forget, they must never find out that you are just an omega, do you understand?"
They felt a presence, Someone was there with them.
