A father awakens to the sound of his children's voices. Playfully telling him to come find them only for him to find out, we woke up in a familiar place with no clue where we actually was.

Chapter 1 Awakening

I could hear them. My boys. Calling for me. But they were nowhere to be seen.

"Papa! Come find us Papa!" said Agnes.

They were no doubt ready to begin our New Year festivities. The whole city of London roared with people from all over as we began our transition into the new millennia. The coming of the year 1900 was rough for us as it is the first New Year celebration we will have since the loss of my wife. Oddly enough... it was as if my children were not even the slightest bit phased by the absence of their mother. They were calling to me as if they had no recollection of the event.

I hoist myself up and out my bed only to find out I have slept well into the day. The clock reads 6 p.m. and this was my first clue that something wasn't right. Usually our maid would have notified me of dinner almost a half hour ago. I call for her. Loud enough to hear each letter echo through the rafters of the manor. I receive no response. No presence. Not even a slight shuffle of her feet along carpet on the wooden floor of the hallway. I begin to walk through the doorway to my room only to hear the call of my children once again. It sounds as if they are right next to me but nowhere to be seen.

"This is odd." I said under my breath as I began to gather my thoughts and focus. All the lights are off, but I was still able to gather enough of what daylight remained to see our dining room was completely empty. The table wasn't set. There was no music and still not a soul to be seen. Each foot step creates a more unsettling pit in my stomach. I know there is something wrong. All the sudden the floor and walls begin to shake accompanied by a loud and machine-like sound beneath the floor. I proceed down the grand staircase as the daylight quickly begins to fade away into darkness so the first thing I do is walk to our coat closet to grab a lantern as to find my away around. The constant call of my children is quickly drowned out by the loud ringing of our dining room phone. I proceed to make my way to the phone and pick up where I am met with nothing but faint grunts and the groans of what sounds to be an adult male. Before I can utter a single word, the call is disconnected. I quickly focus my attention on the cheery and oddly clear cries from my boys. I turn down the left hallway from the dining room to follow their voices. Very quickly I begin to realize that every door I come to has been locked from the other side except for one. The door in the back of my study leading down below the manor to our boiler room. I am presented with a dark opening with the sight of a lightly illuminated wooden staircase before my feet. I cautiously begin my descent down the stairs only to be met with a new call from one of my boys.
