"Why are you still sleeping by this time of the day," my guardian she-wolf, Victoria yelled at me. I turned around slowly at the sound of her yells and lets out a despairing sigh. I was so tired that I could not move a limb. I stared dizzily at the broken wall clock in the room and noticed that it was just four am.
I had a scholarship exam the previous day and I couldn't help but come back home late. As a punishment, I was made to do all the house chores up to the late hours of two am. I knew I was going to be getting into bigger trouble if I didn't get up the mat I laid, but my legs just would not move an inch.
Then, Victoria angrily came up to me and kicked me hard on my stomach.
"Kick," a hard hit landed on my face.
I groaned in pain and didn't realize the moment a flow of tears started escaping from my eye.
Victoria wasn't my real mum, she only adopted me when I had nowhere to go. At the time when my pack was still how it used to be, she was just a common a slave at the neighbourhood pack that was always at war with my pack.
I was once the princess of the blue moon pack until everything I could lay hold of was taken away from me.
I could still remember that dark creepy night when the pack was unknowingly attacked by a gang of werewolf Hunter.
That night, while my father went out with the rest of the pack warriors to protect the pack, I remained indoors with my mom and my brother. My chestnut brown hair stood straight on my head and my light brown eyes moved erratically, controlled by fear.
I looked into my mum's eyes and I could see fear written all over it. My mum was a strong Luna and I have never seen her in such a frightening state all my life.
I could hear the sound of gunshots outside the palace court and the clinging sound of swords that made me to shiver hard with fear.
I knew the pack could never win this war over these evil men as their weapons were more sophisticated than ours.
Then, my mum advanced towards me and my brother as we sat on the bed. "I have to get going now to help injured men outside," My mum said.
"Mum, promise me that you will be okay and back with dad as....." I tried to say but my brother shut me up almost immediately. He knew better than me because he was older than me.
"Don't ask such questions," he glared at me.
I could no longer restrain the tears in my eyes and I had to pour it out.
"Don't treat your sister that way," my mom rebuked. "You must learn to always be there for her," she said to my brother while he nodded in acknowledgment.
"As for you my princess, I promise to return as long as it lies in my ability," she said but her facial expressions betrayed her words.
"l watched as my mother walked out of my life, never to be seen again. My brother and I waited for my mum and my dad to return but non of them came for us. My stomach rumbled after waiting for them for long hours and refusing to blink an eye.
When we had waited for a very long time, my brother turned over to me. "I will have to leave now," he said. "Make sure you don't move an inch from this place and whatever you do, don't dare to come outside. For now, I want you to wait for me under the bed, okay?" He inquires.
At this, I was too weak to say even a word and I only nodded my little head in acknowledgment. Slowly, he also began to leave me alone in the room. And I didn't want him to, I was scared to death. As he got to the bed, he turned over to me. I could no longer control the heavy beating of my little heart.
"What are you still doing there, I said you should get under the bed," he yelled at me.
I could no longer restrain my tears, allowing them to flow down from my flawless skin. My brother was moved by sympathy and he came to me. For the last time, I stared into his bossy but sweet eyes and wished all this never started in the first place.
"I will have to go now," he said. "Please stay safe."
"Please don't leave me alone," I pleaded.
"I am afraid I would have to."
So, he also left me while I went under the bed to hide. A few minutes later, my sensitive ears began to catch my mother's, father and brother's voices outside. I thought everything had ended and I ran out of bed to give them a warm embrace. But at the door, I heard an odd sound.
It was mum and she was crying. I could also pick up my brother's voice crying in the crowd. "They aren't safe," I said to myself.
"Check if there is anyone inside there," I heard a thick voice saying. I could sense immediately that he was the leader of this hunter team.
Immediately I heard this, my heart began to quake harder, hitting the outline of my chest so hard that I felt like fainting. I had to look for somewhere to hide before it was too late. But where exactly was I going to hide that wouldn't be searched? Then I remembered the small hole in the wall. Grandpa had told them that he used to hide there when he was very young. It was for emergencies just like this, but only one person could fit in.
I quickly got into the wall and closed it back with the molded seal that made it seem that it was just a natural wall with a little extra design. Light is filtered through a hole in the seal.
Through the hole, I could see everything happening outside. My heart quaked as I saw my mother and my brother dragged into the place. The leader of the gang, a cruelly handsome man in his mid-thirties, held my mother by the jaw and spat on her face.
"Tell me where she is," he glared at her.
My heart skipped a lot of beats after I heard this. This meant they already knew that I was alive and they wanted me. I also began to wonder where dad was. I just wished something bad had not happened to him.
"You've taken my husband away from me already, what else do you want," my mum sobbed.
"I want everything related to this pack to be whipped out," the wicked man fired.
Hearing that my father had been killed, I began to shed silent tears. I could still remember the cruel face of the name and the whispers of his bloody name rang in my ears. I stared at the cruel man and wished my wolf would just come on me and would tear him apart with its sharp claws.
Right now, the greatest thing that would happen to him was to find me and end my life. Cause if by any means I am allowed to live and grow up with this hatred, I would come back after him with all the strength I have got in me.
"Search the place," the gang leader ordered.
The four-man that stood beside him began to search the room intensively, making the pace of my heartbeat go faster by the minute.
I saw one of the men advancing towards me until the light in the hole was blanked out. Cold shivers ran down my spine and I couldn't help but shudder absently.
I instantly gave up hope of surviving after I waited for some minutes and then the light didn't go away. I shut my eyes at that instant ready for the worst. Then the light began to filter into the place again.
"We found nothing useful here," the guards returned.
"Then I would have to finish up my mission here."
The man drew out a gun from his waist and aimed it at my mother's head. I shut my eyes and I heard a gunshot. I was still too scared to see my mother's dead body so I kept my eyes shut.
"Let's go boys," I heard Mr. Rufus saying. A few minutes later, I heard the start of a car engine and a car buzzing away.
"They are gone," I thought
I came out of my hiding place with my eyes overrun with tears. I fell beside my mother's corpse and sobbed.
"No mom," you can't be dead, you can't leave me all alone in this cruel world," I sobbed, dragging her shirt to see if she would respond to my appeals but she didn't move an inch. She was dead.
Seeing that there was nothing else to do, I stood up from my squatting position and walked out of the room, into the once lively palace environment.
Outside, there was not a single atom of life. I could see my brother's body laying lifeless on the floor. I didn't even bother to get close to him, I wasn't courageous enough.
I could already feel my feet shaking uncontrollably and my vision was beginning to dwindle. Everything had been destroyed and the once beautiful pack had lost its glory. At this point, streams of fresh tears began to run down my eyes. I could no longer stand the ugly sight anymore and I passed out.
