Chapter 1 Aurora's Forbidden love

On a cliff west of the Wilfred river sat a young man. His face was blank with no emotion, his eyes icy and his mind clouded with thoughts. Unlike any other, he wasn’t just a werewolf but the son of the alpha. He wore a grey cloth coat and hose. Facing down, he stared at the mist that covered the river that ran at the bottom of the cliff. Just like the river, he couldn’t see his future since too many things determined its outcome. Just like the river, he could hear the sound of the future fast approaching. Which was his father, always rumbling his commands, do this, do that. "

Finally eighteen," he said, with sarcasm filling his voice. For a werewolf his age, it was time to start looking for a mate. However, he felt he was already past that as he had already found her. Unfortunately, his father mistook her for him; only by mentioning his friendship with her would you see fear in the great Alpha's eyes. to ruin their relationship until they talked in secret as if it was a crime to be friends.

As the wind blew, he felt the scent of her coming fast from a distance. He shot up, facing upwards to clearly confirm the scent since it wasn’t a good time to be away from the village. With one look at him, you would argue that no one deserves to be so gorgeous. eyes like the ocean, golden brown and a warrior’s muscular body. However, he was not fully gorgeous as he had scars on the inside and out and all were ugly ones.

He then felt her slowly and gracefully walking towards him. She was everything he had left. He was his best friend, but his father had always been against their friendship, something he didn’t know why. Without his mother around and a perfect, alpha father, he had only her to count on. Clearly, he loved her, but the words struggled to get out of his mouth. She

held him close, wrapping her arms around him from behind. With her sweet voice, she whispered to his ear.

"Skylar, what are you thinking about?" she asked.

"Nothing," he replied, his voice cold as ice. This wasn’t the real him, only the him. His father had created a wolf to be feared, a warrior and a perfect person, of which there is none.

He then turned around and beheld her dark brown eyes, her long dark hair and slim lips. That made him lose his concentration. With her long white gown held clearly in position by her bosom, she looked like an angel. He never touched them, for something in him stopped him.

"Are you going to tell your father?" she asked as she touched his face, caressing his scar that ran from the temple to the cheek.

"Yes," he replied. A few years before, he had learnt not to stand up to his father, but he then felt grown to do so.

"Are you sure you want to stand up to him after the..." she started, but Skylar couldn’t let him finish her statement.

"After What, Kayla? I was just an eight-year-old boy. How many battles have I won ever since? "He will not have his way this time," he said, full of rage, his eyes turning completely dark with his pupils turning orange.

"You don’t have to get mad; I was just asking," she said apologetically.

"Don’t apologize." "Have you seen Aurora?" he asked, leaving the topic.

"Yes, she was with Trevor when I left," replied Kayla, wondering why he would ask about his sister’s whereabouts, but without asking, he knew she wondered, but he decided not to answer.

"I forgot, the other packs have arrived. Let’s leave," she replied as she turned around, heading for the hamlet.

She dashes through the forest on the mountain's slopes, then leaps into the air, transforming into her wolf form. Skylar quickly followed, not wanting to take any chances with her as wolves were disappearing and no one knew where they went. Quickly, he ran, following her up to the hamlet.

On their arrival, they met Trevor, Kayla’s sister and one of his close friends.

"Your father wants you in the hall." "The leaders of the dark wolf pack and ours are there. You better run before they kill each other in there," he said, placing one hand on Skylar’s shoulder.

Trevor was a secretive person, but he was clearly admired by most girls. It was his dark bouncy hair and his dark brown eyes that made most of the girls in Hamlet talk about him, but what was strange was his lack of interest in all of them.

Slowly, Skylar opened the door to the hall. It was cold, and you could clearly feel the tension inside. You need not be told that they were arch enemies. He slowly walked past all the leaders and went to sit next to his father. A tall, white man's baldness covers half his head, making his head look like a forest with a clearing. His eyes were full of distrust and his lips bulged out in pride, decreasing in size to their side ends.

"Where were you?" he asked Skylar, whispering in his ear authoritatively like a commander to his soldiers. "

Is there anyone we are waiting for?" said Skylar in a loud voice, capturing everyone in the room's attention. Silence was their response.

"I presume no one, so shall we begin?" he continued.

"So five of our pack members have disappeared." "I personally think you with your murderers of pack members took them," said Skylar’s father with a voice full of detest for the dark wolf pack. One might wonder what makes them different. The dark wolves pack kill and murder people, hence their fur turns black. Once they murder a human, the thirst for blood is unquenchable. "Griff

, we ourselves have lost nine of our members. Set your pride aside or you will be the next to disappear, "said one of the dark wolf pack leaders in a still voice. You would think he was a priest." However, Jackson was the most ruthless werewolf you could meet if you crossed paths with him.

"Look, I am Damon from the Blood Moon Pack from the Dark Side and I saw one of the attacks," said one man with ginger brown hair, which looked like a plantation of wheat. His eyes were wide and green. He had a mustache of the same color as his hair, and he wore a white shirt. His pants were black but were not clearly seen due to the long table that kept both packs on their side.

"What did you see, exactly?" asked my father, with a tinge of belief in his voice.

I know I will sound crazy, but I swear on the moon goddess that this is what I saw. I saw them being carried away by a blur. I don’t know what creature can have such speed, but one by one they were taken so fast that the only thing I saw was a black blur in which I assume the creature was black in color, "explained the man. According to Skylar, he couldn’t think of what that information would help them with.

"I think it’s the witches." I mean, they have always wanted us out of here, "said Skylar with fear in his voice, since he had never seen a witch and only tales were told to him by his father.

"No son, witches are not that fast. Only one creature is that fast, but it is extinct as our father killed all of them in order to get these mountains," said Victor, Griffith's best friend and Kayla’s father.

"Vampires are all dead. It’s been what, two hundred years?" "They are all dead, Victor," said Skylar’s father with a smile on his face, trying to mock Victor like he always did. Normally, everyone laughed with him, but this time the room was filled with fear.

"We cannot rule out any creature. I mean, all attacks took place at night, "he said.

After hours of back and forth discussion and insulting each other, they all came to one solution that Skylar thought of.

"Silence everyone. "It's already night and we haven’t found anything about this creature, so I suggest we consult the grey one," he said as he stood. His voice echoed in every corner of the room, bringing silence.

"I agree," said Jackson.

"What would that old woman know about disappearances and vampires!?" barked Griffith as arrogance filled his voice.

"It seems your son didn’t get his brains from your side," said Jackson, leading to the whole room bursting out into laughter.

"Who agrees with him?" asked Victor. Immediately,

all hands shot up, showing support for Skylar’s opinion. Never had these two sides sat in one room together. Only a common enemy would bring that about.

"Today is my son’s eighteenth birthday. Finally he will find a mate to replace me," said Griffith, avoiding the incident that had just occurred, showing him he was wrong.

"Only that we don’t intermarry, I would give you my daughter." If I had one, "said Jackson.

"Thank you, but I have already found one," replied Skylar in a descending tone, sure of what his father would say to him.

"Who?" asked his father as he turned to him, facing him so as to silence him.

"Victor’s daughter Kayla," said Skylar, double-minded if that was the right thing to do.

"That cannot happen. We have been through this over and over again." She is the only girl you know apart from your sister. "First look around, then make a decision. There is still time," said his father quickly as fear filled his voice.

"I have already.." started Skylar, but his father interrupted him quickly.

"It's already nighttime; let us go to the other hall for his birthday celebration and initiation into adulthood," Griffith said, overhearing Skylar's remarks.

On the other side of the river, in the thick dark forest, was a village. Unlike other villages', it seemed to have ears, eyes, and feelings as everything said on it somehow came to be known by all, and anything seen by one was seen by all, some people said. That is where the witches resided. In the house at the extreme end of the village stood a castle for the head and priestess of the witches. In her kitchen, she stood stirring up a beef stew. Years ago, her long black gown concealed her beauty, but that is no longer the case. Krista had grown cold, her heart broken by the only man she had ever truly loved. Their love was forbidden, but sweet it was. Now her skin was folded with wrinkles, her skin pale, her bosom hanging, making her gown twice her size. Her daughter, however, was stunningly the opposite.

"Mother, I am home," said Catherine as she walked into the living room, placing tomatoes on the table, then started walking towards the stairs to head to her room.

"Where have you come from?" asked Krista as she took the tomatoes from the table.

"I was with Anna," replied Catherine as she stood awaiting further questioning.

"Are you ready for tomorrow?" she asked as she covered the pot, then walked over to where Catherine stood.

"Tomorrow?. What is happening tomorrow?" asked Catherine. "

You never listen." "It's the beginning of the preparation for the ritual of the virgins and you are going to participate," said her mother. She was shocked by

this decision. Her mother was made of stone. She couldn’t run or refuse because the village was a prison. Slowly, she walked up the stairs, heading to her bedroom. All she wanted was to get out of the village and breathe fresh air, which had no conditions. As she sat down on her bed, she pondered if the world was as colorful as she pictured it. In her room was a small pot in which she used to practice her magic.

With the virgin ritual up and coming, she had to perfect her magic. Although virgins survived the ritual, she didn’t want to risk it.

"I am not going to do it!" she said through her teeth, her anger clearly visible in her face. After laying on the bed for an hour, she couldn’t get the picture of the ritual out of her mind. She stood up, took her black coat from the hanger, and walked out of the room. "Where

are you headed?" asked the warden.

"Just to breathe in some fresh air, Mom," she replied as she walked out of the door hurriedly. Slowly,

she walked towards the forest where the river marked their boundary. Slowly she walked, wondering why her mother was this cold and why she never let her get close to the river even when her friends went there for a swim. Slowly, she dodged the trees' darkness, feeling her vision. The forest was a graveyard. As she went eastwards, she could hear the river roaring. She started running, but only near the river could she find light. She quickly pushed the vines out of her path, and then she noticed the bright rays of the moon reflecting on the water."

going for a swim," she said to herself. Slowly, she took off her clothes, revealing to the mother the nature of her natural state. Slowly she got into the water and immediately her shoulders got under the water level. The river changed its direction from downwards to the top. She started screaming for help, her voice occasionally being silenced by the water. The waves pushed her, slamming her head against a riverbank rock.

As he walked to the hall, he met Aurora. Her hands shook on seeing her brother. To her, he was cold and, like his father, a damn perfectionist. Slowly, he walked over to her and whispered a word to her ears. Something he thought was right and good, but the result of it was only for time to tell.

"Be careful," he whispered, then walked away to the hall entrance to direct all those who were entering. His sister was not as beautiful as a goddess, but truly she had a heart of gold. Even if she did not know, she was her brother’s weakness.

"Okay," she replied, heading to their house. Her home was only her and her brother's. "Welcome,

Sir. The alpha's at the front table on my extreme right," he said with a plastic smile on his face. His father walked past him, piercing him with his eyes. He must have known that he would have to pay for upsetting his father in some way. After all the elderly were settled in, he walked inside, heading to his seat next to his commander. Respectfully, he sat, and the feast began. Laughter and talking filled the room. For some time, he dined; then his father, together with the other alphas, left for a mid-night hunting contest.

As they walked out of the door, he didn’t see any reason to leave. As he sat, he saw Trevor’s face full of sadness, something he wasn’t used to. He walked over and cleared his throat.

"What, Sky?" he said as he held his head with his hands like a jack holding a car.

"Why are you..." he started his question, but from afar he could hear another crowd of people making noises. Quickly,

he ran out of the hall, heading to exactly where the noises came from. His mind assured him it was their house, but his heart suppressed the thought. Quickly, he ran, past those in his way. A few steps further, he could hear what he feared to be there. On reaching the house in front of theirs, he leapt up, settling into the ceiling, then, with a thunderous voice, he roared,

"LEAVE MY SISTER ALONE!"
