"Where are you going?" I turned to look at my father who was leaning on my door. It seems I left the door open when I went out earlier to get something from one of my older brothers.
I swallowed the lump on my throat as I went back to fixing my eyelashes on. I finished the final touches on my make up before I opened my mouth to answer, "Just a girl's night out. I'll be back before you know it."
I find it strange that this father of mine managed to find my room. He rarely visits this side of the house as he's always by my twin sister's side. It's even more weird that he asked me things such as where I am headed to. In short, my father is not acting like himself today.
"Why are you going out this late? And in that attire?" His voice sounds stern and stiff, he is clearly not happy about the idea of me going out to party.
I looked down at my outfit. It's a red sparkly tube dress that is 2 inches above the knees and is tightly fitted.
I personally don't see anything wrong with it. I have always worn these kind of dresses, some are even much more revealing than this. What's more is that he's already seen me like this more than once. Why is he acting like this now?
I sighed, "Then in that case it wouldn't be a night out. In hours like this, it's fun to go out. And besides, what's wrong with my dress? I look good, don't I, father?" I smiled, showing him my glittery outfit. "If you have nothing more to say, I will be leaving."
I picked up my purse from the bed, and immediately passed through my astonished father. He tried to stop me as I went down the stairs and made my way to the door. But he got stopped by my mother who enthusiastically told him that Alzamira was calling.
As it turns out, my twin sister, Alzamira, had gone abroad to study. I was not even informed of her departure, apparently the whole family knows. Except for me, of course.
I shook my head as I drank another shot of alcohol.
"What are you doing, Ziyena? Stop." My friend says, taking the glass from me. "You're about to finish the third bottle." She points out.
"Girl, are you heartbroken or what?" The other asks.
"She doesn't even have a boyfriend, what are you talking about?" I heard her snicker, "It's about your family again, isn't it? Is it your sister again? I told you to put poison on her food if she messes with you again."
I laughed at her statement. "No, she didn't do anything this time." I stared at the empty bottle of alcohol as I spoke, "I'm... probably, just, probably. Celebrating the fact that my father showed just a tiny winy bit of care for me."
Our table went silent. My friends know how much I crave for my family and their affection. Though my four brothers never failed to show me how much they love and adore me, I still wanted to feel the warmth of my parents' embrace.
If it isn't obvious enough, my parents have their favorite child; my twin sister.
She is loved ever since she was brought into this world. According to my grandparents (who also never once showed any signs of favoritism towards my sister), after the risky birth of my four older brothers who are quadroplets, my mom didn't want another set of twins. But when the ultrasound results came out, she was devastated to find out there were another two babies inside of her.
She got depressed and even tried to get rid of me. It was that bad.
She was scared of experiencing another painful birth and she was more than terrified to lose her life just because there was one extra baby.
And then, because of the extreme stress she was in during her pregnancy, she gave birth a month early. While in labor, my mom was crying as she held tightly into my father's hands. After getting my twin out, my mother passed out. Which is the reason she had to go into c-section to get me out.
After she woke up, she only recognized my twin, and abandoned me completely. The doctors told them that she hasn't really reach the point of insanity, she is just in denial plus, her depression, and my father wasn't any better.
My grandparents couldn't do anything about it, and decided to just take me and raise me themselves. And when my mother was a lot better, they gave me back to my parents.
While she still treats me like her own daughter, I couldn't not see how much they favored my twin. She gets better presents in Christmases and Birthdays, she was given privileges in which I don't even get offered to. Those are just the little things, but for the little girl I once was, it hurt her more than anything. After recalling all those and going quiet for a short while, I abruptly stood up. "I'm gonna go dance."
I didn't give my friends a chance to talk and immediately went for the dance floor, where drunk and sweaty bodies were busy rubbing each other.
I normally wouldn't have consider joining this noisy crowd but for tonight, just for tonight, I will let myself go.
Twirling, twerking, and even grinding my body to strangers. I didn't care. I was drunk, and everything seems like a blur. That was when my back bumped into someone.
"Oh, sorry." I said, giggling as I tried to push my heavy body away.
But I was unable to do so when his arms made its way to my waist, securing it there tightly as he pulled me even closer to him. His actions made me freeze. I looked up to meet his eyes and I gasped as he was looking at me so intensely.
"Now you've done it."
"A mere human dares to love a God?" In a world where humans with special abilities aren't rare, Gods and Goddesses mingle with them, going unnoticed as they blended naturally with them. But maybe... just maybe, the Goddess of Death's decision to descend was a bad idea. "I know I am nothing but a lowly creature to you, your grace, but--" "But what?" Her face shows no emotions as she stares at the young man in front of her. He looks decent, but still unworthy of a beauty such as herself. The young man met her eyes, "Please let me prove myself to you."
