For seven years, I endured agonizing egg retrieval surgeries just to give my Alpha mate, Kael, a strong heir. But one day, he coldly announced he had impregnated a high-ranking Beta female instead. He told me I would raise her pup as my own to satisfy the pack Elders. When the pregnant Beta faked a fall at the pack banquet, Kael slapped me to the ground in front of everyone to protect his authority. Desperate to escape his suffocating control, I caused a car crash and ended up in the pack hospital. That was when I overheard the High Healer confronting him. The "fertility vitamins" Kael had personally fed me every single night for the past seven years were actually Wolfsbane. He had been intentionally destroying my ability to bear pups all along. I stared at the mate who had wiped my tears when I cried on the bathroom floor over every negative pregnancy test. He had held my hand through every agonizing surgery, watching me bleed and beg the Moon Goddess for a child, all while secretly feeding me poison. "I did it to protect our pups from the pack's cruelty!" Kael sobbed on his knees, begging for my understanding. But my heart was already dead. I forced our Mind-link wide open, stared into his terrified eyes, and spoke the sacred words of Rejection. This time, I chose to sever our soul bond, take my freedom, and let him rot.

Chapter 1

Elara POV

The sterile glare of the pack hospital's fluorescent tubes was a physical weight on my eyelids. A raw, chemical smell of bleach scoured the inside of my nose, erasing the familiar, earthy scents of the wolves around me.

I lay on the cold operating table, a tremor running uncontrollably through my limbs. A sharp, pulling ache radiated from my lower abdomen. This procedure, my fourth for egg retrieval, had been mandated by the Elder Council.

My inner Omega whimpered in my mind, a pathetic sound of exhaustion and sorrow.

Beside me, Kael held my hand.

His large, warm palm completely engulfed my cold fingers. An oppressive weight, heavy with the scent of dark pine and an impending thunderstorm, settled over the operating table. This Alpha scent, deliberately released, was a net meant to ensnare my panicked instincts and drag them into submission.

"Elara, my sweet Luna," Kael murmured. His voice was a deep, rumbling purr that vibrated against my skin. He brushed a sweaty strand of hair from my forehead. "You need to stop this. The pain is destroying you. The Elders can be managed. We can live without a pup."

His eyes, a striking shade of amber, regarded me with what might have been mistaken for deep concern.

I shook my head weakly, gripping his fingers tighter. "No, Kael. Your mother and the Council will never accept that. The pack needs an heir. You are the Alpha."

The Alpha was the absolute ruler of our pack, the strongest wolf who protected us all. As his Luna, the mother of the pack, it was my sacred duty to provide him with a strong bloodline. Especially since I was born a bottom-tier Omega, a servant class wolf. I needed a pup to prove I was worthy of standing beside him.

Kael sighed, a heavy sound that made the air in the room feel thick. He leaned closer, his lips brushing against my ear.

"I have already solved the problem, Elara. The Council will have its heir, and your suffering is at an end."

The air in my lungs seemed to turn to ice, refusing to be exhaled.

"What do you mean?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

Kael smiled, but the warmth did not reach his amber eyes.

"I have impregnated a high-ranking Beta female. Selene."

The words hung in the air, and I felt the slow, deliberate cessation of blood flow in my veins.

"She carries strong genes," Kael continued, his tone dangerously casual. "When the pup is born, we will take it. You will raise it as your own. It will be a suitable heir. My mother has already given her consent."

My mouth opened, but no sound came out. A silent, internal roar echoed in the hollow space of my skull, a vibration of pure agony from my inner wolf.

I violently snatched my hand away from his grip.

"You did what?" I gasped, struggling to sit up despite the tearing pain in my stomach. "After seven years of me crying, bleeding, and begging the Moon Goddess for a child? Seven years of you holding my hand through these surgeries?"

I bit down on my lower lip, the taste of rust filling my mouth, but it was not enough to stop the acidic burn in my eyes as my vision completely dissolved. "How could you make a joke out of my pain, Kael?"

Kael's face hardened, his jaw ticking. He showed no remorse.

"It was the Heat, Elara," he stated coldly.

The Heat was a biological frenzy, a burning fever that stripped away reason and left only the primal urge to breed.

"It was a biological response to the full moon. She was there. It took one time." He reached out to touch my cheek, but I flinched away. "It is just a breeding instinct. You are the only female I have ever Marked."

He gestured to the permanent bite scar on my neck, the ultimate claim of a mate. "You will always be my Luna."

His voice was soft, but the words felt like heavy stones crushing my chest.

"If you truly do not want it," Kael whispered, his breath fanning my face, "I will order the Beta to abort the pup today."

A fresh wave of physical agony ripped through my abdomen. The emotional shock collided with the surgical trauma. Warm, sticky liquid pooled between my legs. I was hemorrhaging.

Black spots danced in my vision. The telepathic channel that bound us, the Mind-link, did not merely close; it felt as if a rusted iron door had been slammed shut inside my head.

The sudden silence in my mind was the last thing I felt before the darkness swallowed me.

When I woke, the first thing I saw was the moonstone-cold and luminous, resting in a velvet box beside my bed. A gift. As if a piece of rock could fill the hollow where my heart used to be.
