Chapter 1 Did He Misunderstand Her
It was an hour past midnight when Rachel Shen came out of the operating room.
At this time, the hospital was very quiet. Summer had brought upon an intense heat, and the entire city was hot as a stove. Despite that, there was a particular chill at the hospital.
Rachel Shen looked over to the brightly lit emergency department. There, a familiar face caught her attention.
A tall man carrying a woman in his arms was briskly walking towards her. Closely behind them, another man followed.
There were already a couple of nurses behind them. Rachel Shen calmly but hurriedly walked towards the group.
The man had obviously seen Rachel Shen. Although his face was calm, there was a hint of anxiety in his eyes. "Rachel, please come and see her," he said, his voice low and cold. "She got drunk, and now she had a high fever."
Jack Fu rarely spoke in a quick and slightly panicked way. But Rachel Shen was used to the situations like this, and she still kept cool. "Take them to Room 108," Rachel Shen told the nurse beside her.

Chapter 1 Unveiling Deceit
Briana was picking a gift for their three-year anniversary when she received Kiley’s text.
Briana was bombarded by more than a dozen photos. Once she processed what she saw, her face drained of color in an instant.
While the photos varied, Maxim and Kiley appeared in each and every one of them.
In the pictures, they were seen hugging, kissing… What remained consistent was the affectionate gaze Maxim directed toward Kiley in those images.
Despite spending three years by Maxim’s side, he had never regarded Briana with the same look.
“Does this look familiar to you?”
Briana felt a headache starting to emerge and instinctively massaged her temple. The house in the pictures did seem recognizable. However, before Briana could draw a conclusion, she received another message from Kiley.
“This is the house you are supposed to live in after you married Maxim. Don’t you recognize it?
“Oops… I almost forgot. Maxim never allowed you to enter it after your wedding night. Do you know why?
“Because Maxim had decorated this house for me. If Norma didn’t butt in on your wedding day, you would never have the chance to enter this house.”
Every word was a stab to Briana’s heart. Briana’s hand started trembling subconsciously as she read the text.

They met in the University during a class, a few weeks before their matriculation, yet it seems like they have known each other for years. They were studying the same course - English and Literature and were in their first year with everything still looking a bit strange to them. The three friends - Anne, Josephine, and Naomi were very different individuals with some similarities. While Anne and Naomi were both from Edo State, Josephine was from Delta State. Both Anne and Josephine were Catholics while Naomi attended a Pentecostal church.
They had gathered for a class at a one-thousand-capacity lecture theatre(LT) and after waiting for close to one hour, it became obvious that the class would not hold. The moment the class rep announced that the class had been canceled, the hall became momentarily rowdy as the majority of the students were going out of the hall at the same time.
"I'm going back to the hostel" Naomi announced, standing up from where she sat.
When she received no response from either Anne or Josephine who were engrossed in their phone, she became pissed and left.
The hall was almost empty when the two friends decided to go home.

Chapter 1 The Substitute Bride
The ornately decorated wedding car trundled into a quiet villa alone. It was supposed to be a happy day, filled with fun and laughter. But the atmosphere was depressing as a funeral.

"If you bring any shame or disgrace to the Reed family, I will drive that old woman out of the hospital."
Alina was referring to Layla's grandmother. Although Layla knew she and her grandma weren't related by blood, she still loved the woman with all her heart.

Chapter 1 Adopted
A luxury BMW was parked at the end of an old street in a small town.
A girl in shabby jeans stood in front of the car door expressionlessly, clutching an equally shabby suitcase.
A middle-aged man was sitting in the driver's seat. He looked at the girl standing outside from the corner of his eyes and frowned, seeming dissatisfied with her shabby ensemble.
"Get in the car," he barked.
The girl didn't flinch despite the harshness in the man's voice.
She calmly opened the door and got in the back seat.
"I'm Bill Jenkins. From now on, you're going to be my daughter. Although we're not biologically related, I'll arrange for someone to train you. You'll become a decent Jenkins lady in no time."
As the man spoke, he started the car and zoomed out of the small town.
In the river-view villa, as soon as Maria Jenkins got out of the car, she saw a middle-aged woman standing at the gate.
Judging from the woman's uniform and demeanor, Maria guessed that she was a servant.
"Mr. Jenkins, Miss Jenkins, welcome back. Lunch is ready."
Bill turned to Maria and said, "Since you're new here, Lily will show you around. You have to behave once you step inside this house. Don't even think about bringing your old bad habits to the Jenkins family. Do you hear me?"

Chapter 1 Divorce
"Divorce."
A mere pair of delicate paper sheets marked the conclusion of a four-year marriage.
Hannah Moore's slender fingers touched the inked name of her husband on the document. Raising her eyes to meet Declan Edwards's, a tearful glint was unmistakable.
"Is there no chance for us?"
Her voice wavered slightly, strained from emotion and the exertion of household chores. Beads of sweat clung to her forehead, sticking to her thick black eyeglass frames, making her appear awkward and plain.
Anticipating his return tonight, excited to discuss their future, she had gotten up early, handpicked fresh produce, cooked, and tidied the house. Her efforts felt futile upon hearing the gut-wrenching news.
"Our marriage was essentially a business arrangement," Declan snapped, flicking ash from his cigarette. "Plus, Eliana will return soon."
So that was it.
Eliana Patel, the woman who occupied his heart, was the one he could never let go of.

Graciela's POV
I walked into school with the chilly wind blowing against my cheeks, you know the feeling when you feel that something big is going to happen but you don't know what?
Yep that's exactly how I'm feeling right now
"Gracie Gracie!" I heard a voice that could only belong to one person call, it was Marilyn , my best friend in Water Bridge High, she rushed towards me in a flurry, I wonder what is up in that head of hers now
"Hey what's up" I greeted with a smile
which she returned sticking out her tongue
"Have you heard the latest?"she hushed glancing around
I smiled , this was so much like Marilyn, if there was anything happening, she was surely among the first persons in school to know about it
I wonder how she does it
"What now?" I asked rolling my eyes at the way she leaned towards me
"You won't believe it!"
Okay now I was getting impatient, what could it possibly be?
"Come on Lyn just spit it out"
"I heard he's transferring back today" she replied
"Who ?"I asked furrowing my brows in confusion
She looked at me and mentioned the one name that was able to insert fear deep inside me
