Zach was in his office, sitting at his desk, but wanting to jump out of his skin. It had been two days since Brandi had been taken. He hadn’t been away from her that long since she’d first stepped into his office what seemed like months ago.
He didn’t know if she was okay or scared or how she was feeling, and this would be the last time he was ever in this position. This separation had crystallized things for him. He knew his heart. He loved Brandi. He’d told her so and that wasn’t a lie. He wouldn’t use an emotion like that to manipulate anyone, and certainly not Brandi.
He picked up a pen and then put it down. He wasn’t getting any work done and hadn’t even worn a suit to the office. He’d given Kendra the day off so she wouldn’t be close to this situation. She didn’t need to be collateral damage to his mistakes. He never should have let his guard down and let Brandi go to the coffee shop alone.
What had he been thinking?
