As soon as Brandi woke up, she knew that Zach was gone. She didn’t know exactly how she knew, but she did. She sighed assessing the situation. He’d made love to her until she was exhausted. Looking at the clock, she’d slept later than she’s had in a long time.
Brandi rose, showered, and found Emma cooking breakfast. “He’s gone isn’t he?”
“Zach?”
“Emma. Please don’t treat me as if I’m stupid.”
Emma glanced over her shoulder a frown on her face. “Yes, he’s gone.”
“Did you know he was going to leave me here?”
“Yes.”
Brandi sighed. “I can’t believe he did this. I don’t understand.”
Emma put down her spatula and faced Brandi. “He’s worried about you. You’re safe here.”
Zach and his need to protect her. “I don’t agree.”
“Well, Zach did and he thought this was for the best. There’s nothing you can do about it right now so you might as well eat a good breakfast,” Emma said.
