I spent seven years building Apex Dynamics from the ground up, working seventy-hour weeks and writing code until my retinas burned, all for my fiancé, Celestino. But when I brought him the core algorithm that would secure his ten-billion-dollar valuation, I found his office door ajar. Inside, our newly appointed VP, Felisha, was draped across his lap, their scents tangled in an obscene display of biological compatibility. "Marrying her is an obligation," Celestino told her, stroking her hair with a tenderness I had never received. "Without her grind, Apex wouldn't have reached this valuation. I owe her a decent exit, but my core mate, my only true equal, has always been you." He then handed my life's work to his mistress, firing my loyal assistant and using his Alpha pressure to force her to her knees when she dared to defend me. Seven years of my youth, my intellect, and my loyalty were reduced to a handout of pity. He actually thought I would crawl back in tears, begging for his approval while he paraded his new "true equal" around the office. I didn't shed a single tear. Instead, I shredded the algorithms, left my three-carat engagement ring on his assistant's keyboard, and walked out. I accepted a CEO position at his fiercest rival, ScentNova. He has no idea the codebase he stole is a landmine without my encryption keys, and I am going to make sure he chokes on every single byte.

His Unwanted Fiancee, The Rival's Queen Chapter 1

Kayden Justice POV:

I stepped out of the elevator, my heels sinking into the plush charcoal carpet of the executive floor at Apex Dynamics.

In my hands I held the thick manila folder containing the master integration map for Project Aether-the only document in existence that bound my adaptive yield curvature module to the rest of the Apex stack. Three consecutive sleepless nights had gone into those pages.

The servers held fragments. Version-stamped modules, each one useless without the map that told them how to speak to one another.

The hallway was unnervingly quiet.

The central purification vents hummed at maximum capacity, yet the industrial filtration could not entirely swallow the sharp, sweet note leaking through the corridor.

I approached the reception desk. Colin, the executive assistant, had left his post unattended, his daily schedule sheets scattered across the polished quartz counter.

I shifted my gaze toward the double mahogany doors of the CEO suite.

They stood ajar, revealing a gap no wider than two inches.

Before my knuckles could touch the wood, a sickening wave of caramel rose hit my nostrils.

It was loud, cloying, and coated in the unmistakable biological signature of a high-tier Omega in the opening phase of her cycle.

Felisha Preston. The supposed European-educated prodigy whom Celestino Middleton had appointed as our new executive vice president three days ago.

Celestino Middleton. My fiancé of two years. The man whose company I had spent seven years building.

My fingers tightened around the edge of the folder, crushing the heavy bond paper until the fibers groaned.

A second scent surged from the crack in the door-deep, heavy aged brandy, thick with Alpha possessiveness, wrapping around the rose without a shred of biological resistance.

The two notes tangled in the air, frictionless and obscene.

I raised my right hand to my throat and thumbed the tactile dial of my neck cuff, clicking it from Level III up to Level IV.

The brushed silver alloy tightened against the seventh cervical vertebra at the base of my neck, cutting off my own winter-white rose scent and erecting a hard barrier against the Alpha pressure rolling through the gap.

I stepped closer to the seam of the door and looked inside.

Through the dim ambient lighting I saw Felisha draped across Celestino's lap on the broad leather sofa.

Her manicured fingertips traced slow, deliberate circles over his loosened silk tie.

"Tino, are you really going to marry Kayden?" Her voice was syrup and manufactured fragility. "What about us?"

Celestino sighed, his large palm stroking her dark waves with a tenderness I had never received in seven years of building his company from the ground up.

"Do not overthink it," he murmured, his deep baritone cutting straight through the door panel. "Marrying her is an obligation, nothing more."

I stood frozen, the blood draining from my face.

"She stayed by my side for seven years," he continued in a tone dripping with calculated charity. "Without her grind, Apex would not have reached this valuation. I owe her a decent exit and a respectable title."

He tilted her chin up, his lips brushing the crown of her head.

"But my core mate, my only true equal, has always been you."

A dry, bitter taste surged up my throat.

Seven years of writing code until my retinas burned, seven years of managing his investor meltdowns, reduced to a handout of pity.

I did not kick the door open.

I did not shed a single tear.

The heat behind my eyes evaporated, replaced by an arctic, absolute clarity.

If my life's work was merely his charity, then he did not deserve a single line of my syntax.

I took half a step back, turned around, and walked over to Colin's empty workstation.

I fed the corner of the folder into the heavy-duty industrial shredder beside the desk.

The machine roared to life, its steel blades chewing through three nights of work in eight seconds.

Let him discover what a stack of orphaned modules is worth without the map.

I looked down at my left hand.

I pulled off the three-carat diamond engagement ring that had bound me to him.

I dropped the ring onto Colin's mechanical keyboard.

The platinum hit the plastic keycaps with a crisp, final click.

I smoothed the lapels of my tailored blazer, walked past the mahogany doors without looking back, and pressed the elevator call button.

The brushed steel doors slid shut, sealing the stench of aged brandy and caramel rose away from my life forever.
