Chapter 1 First encounter

".......... In closing, I'll like to say, don't be afraid to fall because it is in those moments of failure that we discover our greatest opportunities for growth. Rise above the challenges, and never give up on your dreams. Thank you"

"Ugh!" Cressida groaned. "Finally this is going to end" Having to sit here through that horribly boring speech about the business world was vexatious. She could not count how many times she has dozed off. She had only entered to take a look at what was going on in the hall. When she found out it was nothing of interest, she went back out only to be told that those who go in can only come out when the event was over. And just like that she was stuck.

She hesitantly clapped alongside others as the old man left the podium. Everyone knew him. A business magnate. Gary Sinclair. The CEO of Sinclair group. It was a huge company that had subsidiaries all over the world and dabbled into every sector of the economy.

Having him at their university was considered a huge honor.......... well, for those who cared.

She was never interested in business, even though her father wanted her to. However, she chose her passion; Art.

He went berserk when he found out and threatened to stop sponsoring her, but she was what someone would call rebellious and headstrong.

She and her father didn't really see eye to eye. She had always blamed him for her mother's death and chose Berkeley Watson university in California on purpose. Far away from home.

Knowing fully well her father cared so much about his reputation and hated being humiliated, she found a job at a restaurant and started working. It took only 24 hours before her father found out.

He called her home and gave her an earful, much of which she could not recall, but she remembered he had asked her what people were going to say if they were found out his daughter was worth in such a place. She had, in turn, told him she was going to continue working there since he said he was going to stop sponsoring her education. In the end, he gave in.

She was in her second year now.

Back to the present, the event was declared over, so she strapped on her backpack and walked out. The plan was to go home, change her dress and go to her part-time job.

Out of habit, her hands went to her neck hoping to fiddle with her locket as usual only to find out it was not there.

She poured out the content in her backpack, searching for it thoroughly but nothing came up. She could not lose it. She had to find it. While trying to fathom how it got lost when she never took it off, she tried to trace back her memory to when she had last seen it.

The library! Yes! She had gone there earlier that day. However, she was asked to leave because the place will be sealed off for the day and the reason being that an important figure will be visiting, and they were going to give him a tour. She didn't need to guess who it was. She knew who it was. She wasn't sure it was there but wanted to at least check.

They will probably be in there right now. Reaching the entrance of the building, she saw the place crawling with men in black. They all turned to her.

She smiled at them awkwardly and muttered through gritted teeth. "Is there really a need to go around with these number of bodyguards?"

"Don't mind me"

There was a tiny alley at the sideways wall of the library. The wall wasn't too high, and it wasn't low either. She didn't think there would come a day when she had to jump over the wall. She threw her backpack in first and was able to hold on to something on the fifth try. She grunted as she climbed the wall with so much difficulty.

Her small body hit the floor heavily and she cried out.

"Ouch" she rubbed her painful butt. She picked up her backpack and turned, only to come face to face with a man. A strikingly handsome man. Perfectly chiseled jaw, sharp eyebrows, perfect lips. He looked nothing less than angelic.......in the hot way. God most definitely had taken his time and sculpted him with so much care. Even though he was fully clothed, she could see the outline of his muscles. Damn! He was flawless.

His beautiful hazel brown eyes stared deep into her sea blue ones with his hands tucked in his pocket making him look even more attractive.

"Who are you?"

Even his voice was sexy. She shook her head to get rid of the bad thoughts. What the hell was she thinking?

"Who are you too?" She questioned, raising her chin.

"I asked first"

"I'm a student here"

"If you truly are a student here, you should know this place is not accessible to you for now"

"I know, but I forgot something. I need to get it back"

"You can do that after this place is opened again, so leave"

"I'm not leaving. I'm going to get it today, and you can't stop me"

"Leave while I'm being nice"

She rolled her eyes and scoffed.

"Did you just roll your eyes at me?"

"I did. What are you going to do? Beat me up? I want to see you try"

For a split moment, she thought she saw a look on his face; amusement. But it disappeared almost immediately so, probably, she was imagining things.

She quickly made some plans in her head. Kick him in the groin and run. Hopefully, she would have found what she came for before he catches her.

She made a sudden move, but it wasn't so for him. He already saw it coming. He avoided the kick and when she was left with no choice, she started to fight him.

They engaged in full on combat. He raised a brow. She wasn't as good as him, but he was surprised she knew those moves.

It didn't take long at all before he got a hold of her two hands. She made her last attempt by targeting his groin again, but he dodged.

"Whoa! Feisty pants. Easy. Impressive skills by the way" a playful smile hanging by the side of his lips.

She glared at him. "Fuck you!"

"Your chances of getting in just got way slimmer"

She sighed in defeat and hung her head. By the time she raised it again, she had an amiable expression, and her tone had greatly softened.

"I really need to find it so please, I beg you, let me in"

He fixed his gaze on her, contemplating whether to let her in or not. The item seemed important to her.

"Alright, but you owe me one"

She agreed immediately, absolutely sure they were never going to see each other again.
