He bought me to break me. I was just a name on a list, someone he believed had wronged his family. Without warning, I was dragged into a life I never chose, handed over to a man whose hatred for me burned hotter than fire. Leon Hart. Billionaire. Cold. Calculated. Ruthless. To him, I was nothing more than a tool for revenge. He wanted to see me suffer, to make me pay for a debt I didn't even know existed. But what he didn't expect was me. My resilience. My silence in the face of cruelty. My secrets, darker than even his past. As days turned to nights, and hate gave way to tension, he began to see the cracks in his own plan. I wasn't the heartless woman he thought I was. And he... wasn't the monster I feared. Now, the lines are blurring. The man who paid to destroy me is falling in love with me. But with enemies in the shadows, truths waiting to be uncovered, and a betrayal that runs deeper than blood, the question remains: Will love be enough when revenge is all he's ever known?

Chapter 1 Sold

The rain fell like judgment, soaking through my thin clothes as I stood at the edge of the marble steps, trembling not from the cold, but from the reality I couldn't escape.

I'd been sold.

Not in a literal sense. There was no auction, no shackles. Just a signature my father's and a debt we could never repay. I was the payment.

The mansion before me loomed like a beast waiting to swallow me whole. High gates. Black steel. Windows that watched like eyes. And behind them... him.

Leon Hart.

The name sent a chill through me. Billionaire. Tycoon. Heartless. I'd read his name in headlines, whispered like a myth among the powerful and feared. Now, I was walking straight into his world. Not as a guest. Not even as a servant.

As his possession.

A maid opened the door before I could knock. "He's waiting."

I stepped inside. Warmth wrapped around me, but I didn't dare feel comfort. My soaked shoes echoed against the marble floor as I followed her into a vast room lit only by firelight.

And there he was.

Leaning against the fireplace, dark suit immaculate, eyes colder than the storm outside.

"Miss Carter," he said without looking at me. "You're punctual. I like that."

I swallowed hard. "What do you want from me?"

Finally, he turned. And when our eyes met, I knew I knew this wasn't just about debt.

This was personal.

He stepped closer. His voice was smooth, low, but carried a deadly edge. "What I want is simple. Obedience. Silence. And for you to never forget why you're here."

"I don't even know what I did," I whispered, voice breaking.

He smirked. "That's the best part."

My fists clenched. My knees wanted to buckle. But I stood tall.

He could break me but not yet.

"You have one room. One rule," he said. "Don't touch anything that isn't yours. And remember, you're not here by choice. You're here because I paid for you."

My cheeks burned with shame.

"Dinner is at eight," he said. "You'll join me. Wear something decent. Try not to embarrass yourself."

He turned and walked away, just like that. As if I were less than a shadow.

But what he didn't know... was that the girl he bought wasn't the girl he thought she was.

And one day, he'd regret ever laying eyes on me.
