My boyfriend Declan Buckley's childhood sweetheart Abby Holt had a terminal illness. The kind that turned out to be a misdiagnosis.

On the day Declan proposed to me, Abby decided to throw caution to the wind and confess her love for him in the name of romance.

In front of everyone, Declan chased after Abby, she ran, and no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't escape. Meanwhile, I was left heartbroken.

I was abandoned by everyone and forced to leave my hometown.

After I was reborn, I faced the familiar accusations from my friends with a smile.

Well, I could also find a friend with a terminal illness.

I found an obscure actor online, offering him ten thousand dollars a month to play the role of a terminally ill male friend.

He agreed without hesitation.

It was an easy case.

But on the agreed day, he told me something had come up and sent someone else in his place.

I didn't mind.

As long as the end goal was achieved, that was all that mattered.

Just as I stepped into the elevator, the doors opened, and I hurried inside. That was when I noticed a tall young man standing in the corner.

He stared at his phone expressionlessly. The light above cast a soft glow on his hair, giving him an almost ethereal aura. His features were strikingly handsome.

But his skin was paler than usual, and there was a weariness in his eyes that was hard to ignore.

He looked like a sick character from a dramatic novel.

I couldn't help but admire him silently, but fearing I might offend him, I quickly averted my gaze.

Just then, the person I had originally hired texted me, saying the replacement actor had already entered the elevator. I dialed the number he provided.

Behind me, a phone rang suddenly, startling me.

Without thinking, I said, "Hello?"

The next moment, I heard a deep, magnetic voice from both the phone and behind me. "Hello."

What a coincidence?

I turned around in surprise, only to see the young man smile. In that instant, the aloofness and coldness he exuded melted away.

"Laurel Curtis?" he asked.

I froze for a moment before nodding.

Never in a million years did I expect the replacement to be such a stunningly handsome man.

But remembering that I was about to face those two despicable people, I quickly explained the plan to him. "In short, just one word, and that is drama. Be as dramatic as you can. I trust your professional skills."

The young man, who had already introduced himself as Greg Pascall, chuckled softly, his tone gentle. "Got it. Mission accepted."

But when the elevator door opened, I took a step and accidentally twisted my foot. Fortunately, Greg was quick to support me.

Meanwhile, a group outside the elevator watched us hug each other.

"Laurel? Why are you here? Who is he?" Declan's voice was filled with shock. His gaze darted between Greg and me, his expression darkening as if he had just been betrayed.

"Laurel!" A shrill voice pierced the air. "I trusted you. I even tried to set you up with my brother, and this is how you repay me? You're sneaking around with someone else? How could you do this to Declan?"

Her outburst immediately drew the attention of everyone around us, their eyes lighting up with curiosity.

Well, a scandal! How exciting for everyone.

What should have been a private matter was broadcasted for all to see, Rosalie Buckley continued, her voice rising. "Declan. You've done so much for her. You even proposed to her, and now she's sneaking off to the hospital to meet another man! And look at them, hugging like that, it's outrageous!"

The crowd began to murmur, their judgmental gazes falling on me as if they'd personally witnessed my supposed betrayal.

But it seemed that Greg just helped me up?

How did this turn into a full-blown scandal?
