As soon as I was reborn, I went to the Jordan family to claim my identity.
It was the weekend that day and the anniversary of Erick Cress's parents' death, so the three of them had unusually returned to the poor neighborhood.
After I heard their conversation outside, I tossed aside the rag, crawled through the dog hole, and bolted out.
Two hours later, I stood in front of the Jordans' house and said to the butler, Rufus, on the other side of the iron gate, "I am the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan. I've come to see my parents."
Rufus looked me up and down and mocked me. "Mr. and Mrs. Jordan's daughter? You? They have only one daughter, Helen Cress. Don't you know that? You must try to mooch off the rich. Get lost before you dirty this place!"
Of course, I knew Helen was the daughter of my adoptive parents.
Erick Cress was the driver, and Janice Cress was a servant. They both worked for the Jordan family. And they were my adoptive parents.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jordan went missing at the age of two. Phil Jordan and his wife, Natalie Jordan, searched everywhere but failed to find their daughter. They "accidentally" met Helen, who went to the Jordans' house because she forgot to bring her keys with her.
Natalie Jordan took a liking to Helen, who was sweet and meek. Since then, she had allowed Helen to stay with the Jordan family. Natalie eventually adopted Helen at the age of eight and showered her with affection.
From then on, everyone knew the Jordan family had only an adopted daughter named Helen and they had no real daughter.
And Rufus, the butler, was as snobbish as ever.
After Helen became the Jordan family's adopted daughter, I fell ill at sixteen. My adoptive parents didn't give me a penny, leaving me to die slowly.
Before my death, I dragged my sick body to the gate of the Jordans' house, hoping my adoptive parents would take me to the hospital. Erick and Janice had already conspired with Rufus to keep me out.
Rufus dragged me to a secluded patch of grass and revealed the truth. "You didn't know that you were Mr. and Mrs. Jordan's daughter, did you? But it's too late now. They have another daughter now. So you'd better quietly wait for death."
I died, and my heart filled with even more hatred.
Seeing Rufus's disdainful gaze again, I decided to go all out.
I screamed while kicking and pulling at the iron gate. I cried out desperately for my parents. Rufus walked out, pinched my arm hard, and wanted to drag me away. I screamed even louder.
Phil and Natalie heard the noise and were successfully drawn out. In their presence, Rufus dared not act rashly and had to tell the truth.
He kept calling me a liar, making me roll my eyes. The next moment, I clearly told Phil and Natalie about the birthmark on my back and my blood type.
The other three people were all stunned. Once Phil and Natalie came back to their senses, they immediately took me to the hospital.
When the test results came out, Natalie hugged me and cried uncontrollably.
Phil turned around and wiped away his tears, but Rufus's gaze wandered.
I clung to Natalie and told her that I felt cold and that my arm ached.
They noticed the bruises on my arm and hurriedly asked who had bullied me.
Rufus wished he could disappear instantly and dared not lift his head.
I leaned against Natalie and pretended to wipe away my tears. "It's nothing, Mom. Rufus thought I was dressed too poorly and feared I was a fraud, so he told me to get lost and pinched me. It's not his fault... but I was so scared, Mom..."
Phil shot a questioning look, and Natalie glared coldly at Rufus.
Rufus was utterly ashamed and could only repeatedly claim that he thought I was a fraud.
"So what? You treated a kid like this? Whether she is or isn't, you shouldn't be so snobbish and do that to her. Leave. The Jordan family doesn't need a butler like you." Phil reprimanded Rufus and fired him on the spot.
I smirked while watching him leave dejectedly.
He got what he deserved!
