Sofia's POV.
The heavy steel door finally moved open while I experienced my first departure from the building after a span of two years. I walked past while guards showed neutral expressions with small acknowledgment as they looked away from my direction. I sucked in a deep breath while the fresh air entered my lungs after having spent two years confined within the walls.
"Feels good," I muttered.
Before departing, I looked back at the wall then my smile vanished. Recollections of my prison times surfaced as I departed because my heart struggled to function while thinking about those memories.
However, it's time for revenge!
I readjusted my weathered old jacket from my previous life while squinting against the sunlight. A low sky smeared the landscape with gold and orange but my heart swam with uncontrolled emotions.
The walk proceeded with excruciating pain and fierce anger burning in each footstep. Today became their anniversary after I had lost everything. I faced complete helplessness when my parents passed away in the prison.
My "sister" established the basis of my downfall so I cannot afford to give up this fight.
I asked loudly, "Is there a bar within this vicinity please?" I made the request while standing at a great distance beyond the prison walls. All prisoners must receive notice the day ahead of their departure while also needing to demonstrate positive change post-release.
I refuse to follow this recommendation at this stage. A bottle of alcohol would help me relax my thoughts.
People frequent a popular bar located in the local area. Turn right two times to locate Sunny Bar according to the middle-aged lady.
I bowed slightly and said, "Thanks so much."
I followed the directions and ended up in front of the bar. With a deep breath, I shut my eyes for a while and opened them back. As I entered a dim bar, the warm glow of neon lights enveloped me like a comforting embrace but my life wasn't comforting.
I ordered a drink, then another, until the world around me lost its sharp edges. Laughter and music faded into a distant hum, and for a moment, I could almost forget the weight of my past.
As the hours slipped away, the liquor fueled my anger. The thought of Jane's betrayal flashed in my memory, igniting the flames of revenge. With each sip, I became angrier, more reckless, until my thoughts morphed into a singular focus: destruction.
That's when I spotted the sleek black car parked on the street. The latest BMW. It was a symbol of everything I detested-wealth, power, and the life I had been denied. I lost trust, my loved ones because of wealth!
Without a second thought, I staggered outside and raised my foot to kick at the side mirror, the satisfying crunch of glass shattering.
"Go away!! Die!!!!" I screamed out in pain and tears as I continued damaging the car.
Just then, a strong grip seized my arm, spinning me around to face the cold, piercing eyes of him. His presence was like a storm showcasing the Mafia aura around me. I could feel the chill radiating from him, a stark reminder of the danger he represented.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" he demanded, his voice low and menacing, sending a shiver down my spine.
I opened my mouth to respond, but the alcohol had other plans. The world around me spun violently as nausea washed over me. Before I could step back, I was retching, the contents of my stomach splattering against his expensive suit. After emptying myself out, I smiled like a fool.
Luca's expression shifted from shock to fury, his jaw tightening as he took a step back, surveying the damage. "What the hell??"
"You're going to pay for this," he growled, his tone brooking no argument.
Instead of feeling sorry, I hit him hard on the face. I giggled happily, enjoying the look on his face. At that moment, all I noticed was my body movements without controlling them, especially my hand movements to his cheeks. The escort behind him also looked surprised with the way I slapped his boss.
He turned to his men with a snap of his fingers. "Take her to the penthouse. Lock her up."
Once in Luca's house, I was thrown into a lavish room, starkly different from the barren cells I had grown accustomed to. The door clicked shut behind me, sealing my fate. I felt a mix of anger and humiliation as I sank into the plush sofa, the fabric foreign against my skin. By then, I was back to my usual sense and realized that I ended up in the trap that I built myself. Oh! With the help of alcohol!
Luca entered a moment later, his presence filling the room like a dark cloud. "You've made quite a mess," he said, his voice smooth but laced with an underlying threat. He approached, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my heart race. "You've damaged my property, and I will make sure you pay dearly."
"What are you talking about?" I shot back, defiance flickering in my chest.
He chuckled darkly, crossing his arms as he leaned against the wall. "Oh, I don't think you understand. It is either you pay back two hundred thousand dollars or you'll work off your debt."
My stomach dropped as realization dawned on me. "What do you mean? How do you expect me to see such a huge amount?"
"You're going to be my maid for a month," he stated, a cruel smile creeping onto his lips. "That's your punishment for the damage you've caused."
My breath caught in my throat. This wasn't how I had envisioned my return to the world. I had dreamed of revenge, of reclaiming my power, and now I'm trapped in a gilded cage, forced to serve the very man who represented everything I despised.
"But I can't! I won't do that!" I protested, my voice rising.
