Elena's POV
"Down you go bitch!"
SPLASH!!
My body plunged into the cold water. My clothes made it worse, dragging me down even further as I struggled to swim to the top. I was drowning and everyone just stared, nobody cared to save me.
As the water gradually filled my lungs, and my eyes blurred into darkness, out of nowhere, a strong hand grabbed me and yanked me back into the air.
I coughed and gasped for air as water rushed out of my mouth and when I regained myself, I saw them... My schoolmates. Their phones were raised high and their laughter rang in my ear.
Paige, my childhood best friend, had pushed me into the swimming pool with a smug on her face, something I never saw coming. Now she stood there, cold and indifferent watching me struggle to breathe.
Travis, the new transfer student, was the only one who jumped into the pool to save me. "Breathe, just breathe," he muttered, pulling me to the pool's pavement.
Then Paige stepped closer, her figure towering over me and her sneer cutting deeper than the cold water did,
"So you honestly believed Jesse invited you to his party because... he likes you?" She scoffed, "Honey, he pities you. I told him to invite you as a favor to me, so I'd teach you a lesson, and like a hungry little puppy, you came running," she continued to mock.
My heart sank as her words spilled, making my eyes wet with tears.
She leaned forward, her words oozing with malice, "I see the way you look at him, I know you wish you were his girlfriend instead of me. Girl, you better stop drooling over him because you can never be his type even if you were the last girl on earth!"
With a cold hard stare and a vile hiss escaping her lips, she flipped her hair and stormed off, her friends trailing behind her, laughing and chatting as they went.
Travis pulled me up, his grip firm but gentle. "My phone... it's gone," I whispered, noticing that it must have fallen into the pool.
"Don't worry about it," Travis whispered as he led me toward Jesse's mansion. Just then, Jesse walked towards us, blocking our way.
"Hey gorgeous, leaving so soon?" He said with a smirk on his face, his fingers brushing my damp hair and trailing down to my soaked blouse, my body trembling beneath.
"Damn, you've got nice boobs, how did I not notice this?" he blurted out.
"Get your filthy hands off her! Touch her again and lose that arm!" Travis roared as he slapped his hand away.
Jesse let out a dry chuckle and stepped closer, his eyes hardening as they stared at Travis. "You've got balls now huh?" He growled.
"If I touch her, what are you going to do about it?" He continued, his eyes flashing with challenge but this wasn't what I wanted to stand here and witness.
I too was cold and uncomfortable and all I wanted was to go inside, so I pushed past them, stumbling towards the mansion.
"Hey!" Travis called out as he followed me into the house.
"Thank you for pulling me out of the pool but I don't need your help, I can take care of myself... Just go," I answered back, my teething chattering under the intense cold I was feeling.
He didn't listen, instead he just studied me. "What's your name?" He asked.
"Elena," I whispered, then turned away, heading to the first hallway I saw. I needed a restroom, a place to clean up and have some privacy.
"Elena, that's not the right way," Travis called out after me. "Come, let me take you to the restroom," he continued.
I hesitated but my clothes were drenched, sticking to my skin and the air conditioner felt like ice against me. Reluctantly, I followed him.
The bathroom door swung open, revealing a large room, adorned with sophisticated gold-plated decorations. Even the toilet seat and bathtub, were a sight to behold.
Travis picked up a towel and gave it to me and I gripped it tightly, shivering, "I need to change this clothes. I can't go home like this," I whispered.
"Wait here, let me go get you something else to wear," he said and dashed off before I could say anything.
A part of me was grateful for his help but another part was bracing for disappointment. Guys like Travis usually didn't notice girls like me. He didn't even know my name, a guy that sat down beside me in class.
The first time he walked into the class, my heart almost stopped. He was such a handsome, confident guy that had a mysterious aura around him.
For a brief moment, my long-time crush on Jesse seemed to fade, overpowered by the newcomer's irresistible charm.
But I knew not to hope, I bet he felt sorry for me and would most likely see me tomorrow and pretend not to know me. It was better I avoided him now and remain the reserved girl who always kept to herself.
Suddenly, the door swung open and Paige stormed in, her girls trailing behind her and her face twisting with rage.
"How dare you?!" She screamed.
"Who the hell do you think you are?!"
