Chapter 1 A Chance Encounter

A mysterious and charming man crosses path with emotional and vulnerable girl.

The rain came down in a steady whisper, soft enough to soothe the city's chaos but loud enough to echo the loneliness in Alina's heart. She stood beneath a flickering streetlamp, her coat wrapped tightly around her small frame, eyes fixed on the pavement as if it held the answers to questions she was too afraid to ask.

She hadn't meant to stay out this late. But the weight of everything-school, home, and that unshakable sense that she didn't quite belong anywhere-made walking in the rain feel safer than going home.

"Rough night?"

The voice was deep, calm, and unexpected.

She turned sharply, startled. A man stood a few feet away, leaning casually against the brick wall of a closed café. He wore a black coat, collar turned up, and shadows danced across his face from the streetlight. Yet, even in the dimness, his features were striking. Strong jaw. Piercing eyes. There was something in his tone that disarmed her. It wasn't pity. It wasn't charm. It was... sincerity. Or at least, it seemed like it.

"I'm Damien," he added after a beat.

She hesitated, then said, "Alina."

"Beautiful name," he said. "Matches the rain."

She almost laughed. It was a ridiculous thing to say, poetic and strange. But there was something oddly comforting in it. And maybe that's why, for the first time in a long time, she didn't walk away.

They talked under that streetlamp for what felt like hours. About nothing. About everything. He asked questions-real ones-and listened, really listened, when she answered. And when she finally looked up at the night sky, she realized the rain had stopped. She hadn't even noticed.

As they parted ways, Damien took a step closer, his eyes searching hers.

"Same time tomorrow?" he asked.

She should've said no. She didn't even know him. But her heart, lonely and naïve, betrayed her.

"Okay," she whispered.

And just like that, the trap was set
