"I can't marry that man Mom I don't know him well enough to embark on this marriage journey with him!"
"Please talk to Dad, mom."
I said, looking at my mom with pleading eyes.
"Lilan, there is absolutely nothing I can do to salvage this situation, my darling; you have to do this for the family. We need this merger."
I couldn't look at my dad; I knew he was distraught; he couldn't lose his company, but he was so ready to lose me.
"Dad, we can work this out; we don't need to merge to save the company; I can double as a marketer; let's try everything we can I really can't marry that man."
I said, fixing my gaze on my dad, looking for the least reassurance from him, but all I could see in his eyes was frustration.
I kneeled, feeling so hopeless. "This can't be my fate; I can't end up like this not in a loveless marriage I deserve a happy ending."
I kept repeating this to myself while tears formed at the back of my eyes.
"I've done everything in my power, princess."
"I've gone everywhere; the banks are refusing to lend us any more money. Our only option is the merger with the Palmers."
"Well, I am not getting married to Adam Palmer, Dad; I will find a way to fix this."
I picked up my coat and stormed out of the house. I could barely make it to my car before breaking down in tears. I felt my whole life shattering away.
I got into my car eager to get away from my parents, but just sat there crying my eyes out. I felt if I cried, I would feel better.
Just as I was about to enter a fit of crazy crying, I had a phone call, and I was snapped back to reality.
It was my best friend Angel who called
"Hey, girlfriend!"
Angel said as soon as I answered the phone.
"Hey Angel, How are you doing, girlfriend?"
I said with my voice still shaking.
"You don't sound too good, Lilian. Is everything okay?"
"I'm not okay a lot is going on right now, Angel. Can you meet me at the Uptown bar? I'm about to leave my parents."
"Okay, hun, just stay calm. I will meet you in 30 minutes."
The drive from my parents to the bar was going to be about 20 minutes. I needed to see Angel she was the only person I could confide in. I needed another person's opinion because I was literally about to lose my mind.
I pulled up at the driveway of the bar, parked my car, and got out to find a special spot for myself and Angel.
It was a popular bar in the city, so I was not surprised by the influx of people inside. I found a spot just by the counter, and I sat there waiting for Angel's arrival.
I sat there going through news channels on my phone to see how bad things were going for my dad's company. Every news article was hinting at a possible merger between the Palmers and Richards; some even speculated about an arranged marriage between their children. I was already getting a migraine reading through all these tabloids. I felt a gentle tap on my back, and I turned to see it was Angel.
"Oh hi there, sweetheart."
I said, standing up and engulfing her in a bear hug. "I needed that," I whispered in her ears.
" Hi there, princess, What's wrong you sounded like you've been crying?"
"Yes, I've been crying," I said while we took our seats.
"Anyone going through my predicament would cry too."
"What's wrong, Lilian? Is this about your dad's company?" "Is there no way out of this?"
"It's just very crazy we are not only losing the company, Angel there's more to it now."
"What do you mean there's more to it?"
"I mean, I have to marry Adam Palmer!" I exclaimed.
I looked around and noticed the bar was too busy and noisy, there were so many people at the bar, lots of interaction, and no one heard my little tantrum.
Turning back to look at Angel, I could not believe the shock on her face she had her hand covering her mouth and her eyes bulging out widely.
"Let me get this straight Lilian, you are saying all the rumors online are not just mere rumors?" she asked.
"I'm saying the Palmers offered to help clear our debt, but in return, our families have to merge and I have to marry their only son, Adam."
"But you barely know this man; this is not the 18th century an arranged marriage is not the only solution!"
Angel exclaimed, with worry in her voice.
"Well, my dad suggested the merger happen and the company should be in split ownership, but the shareholders won't agree to that. I'll meet with Adam Palmer tomorrow, and I'm freaking out, Angel."
"My life seems like a movie, Angel," I added.
"What are you going to tell him when you meet up with him tomorrow? Maybe both of you can agree on something then."
"Well, I do hope he is reasonable and he tries to find a way out of this". I said not too certain about my reply.
"Whatever happens, Lilian, I'm here to support you all the way, girlfriend. I love you, and I will always be here for you."
"Thank you, Angel I knew I would feel better talking to you; I love you so much."
Angel and I did a little bit of catching up. We cleared our bills, and we headed to our cars.
I mistakenly tripped on my coat, and I was heading for the ground when I felt strong arms grab me. I looked up to see who had just saved me from an embarrassing fall, and I couldn't believe my eyes it was none other than Adam Palmer.
