Arkan didn't answer, just nodded slowly while still concentrating on his work. It had been more than two hours since the operation began, and everyone in the room knew that Arkan didn't like to be disturbed while he was working.
Of all the surgeons in this hospital, Arkan is the most respected and the most feared. Not because he is rude or unfriendly, but because of his extremely cold and professional demeanor, as if no one could penetrate the wall he built around himself.
However, despite being known as a doctor who is not easy to approach, Arkan can always be relied on. Not a single operation he led ended in failure. That is why, even though many are afraid and reluctant to work with him, they still admire him.
"Good," Arkan murmured softly as he finally completed the complicated procedure. "We did it."
Everyone in the room breathed a sigh of relief. The operation was completed successfully, as expected from Arkan Rahadian.
The arrival of Dr. Nya:
The hospital was once again bustling with morning activity when Dr. Naya Prameswari arrived on her first day of work. Her cheerful smile and light steps immediately caught the attention of several nurses who were chatting in the hallway.
"Welcome, Dr. Naya," greeted one of the nurses, Dewi, politely. "We heard that you just finished your specialization. Welcome here!"
Naya smiled widely, showing her sweet dimples. "Thank you, Mbak Dewi. I am very happy to be able to work here. Hopefully I can learn a lot from all my colleagues."
Dewi chuckled. "With that kind of enthusiasm, I'm sure you'll adjust quickly. Oh, by the way, have you met Dr. Arkan?"
"Not yet, Miss. But I've heard his name often. He's the best surgeon here, right?"
"That's right," Dewi replied in a respectful tone. "But be careful, Dr. Arkan is known to be very cold. Don't expect too much to be able to have a long chat with him."
Naya just smiled at the warning. She was not easily intimidated, and although she was a little nervous about meeting a doctor who was already very experienced like Arkan, she also felt challenged. Naya was the type of person who always wanted to give her best, and she was determined to prove her abilities, even to the coldest doctor.
That morning, Dr. Arkan arrived at the hospital earlier than usual. The sky was still dark, and there were only a few vehicles passing by on the road. The room was still quiet, only the faint hum of the air conditioner could be heard. He turned on the desk lamp, sat down in his chair, and opened the files that needed to be reviewed before this morning's surgery.
However, his thoughts were constantly disturbed by something unexpected-Dr. Naya. The young woman, with her ever-cheerful smile, made Arkan feel disturbed. He never let anyone into his life, let alone a woman. However, Naya was different. There was something about her that made Arkan unable to just ignore her.
Arkan rubbed his face with his hand, trying to dispel the thoughts. "Focus, Arkan," he whispered to himself. "She's just a coworker, nothing more."
However, the sound of footsteps outside his office door made him look up. Naya stepped in, still wearing her white doctor's coat, with a smile that never left her face.
"Good morning, Dr. Arkan," she greeted pleasantly, sitting down in the chair in front of Arkan's desk. "Have you reviewed our patient's case today?"
Arkan nodded briefly. "Yes. The case is quite complicated, but I'm sure we can handle it."
Naya realized Arkan's tone remained cold and formal, but she was not bothered. For her, it was part of the challenge to get closer to this doctor. She knew, behind that cold attitude, there was someone who was struggling with the shadows of the past.
"Then, let's prepare everything well," Naya replied, her smile still warm. "I will make sure everything is ready in the operating room."
Arkan just nodded again, but this time, he let his gaze linger a little longer on Naya. There was something about Naya that made him feel a little lighter, though he didn't know what it was. Maybe it was her warmth, or maybe it was her sincerity. Who knows.
In the operating room, the team was ready with complete equipment. Naya stood by Arkan's side, ready to help with anything needed. This operation was a very complex procedure-heart surgery for a patient with a congenital abnormality. Arkan had performed this procedure many times, but each time there was always a new challenge to face.
"Naya, we will start with an incision on the sternum," Arkan said calmly, although the tension was still in the air.
"Ready, Doctor," Naya answered quickly, her hands ready to hold the necessary tools.
