Felix caressed her long blonde hair while trying to get the best view of her glassy white textured skin. " I think we should do something spectacular today. Just both of us."
She raised her head and responded seductively, "What are you trying to say? Well, I am tired and I hope you are..."
He quickly altered her statement and explained what he had planned out.
"For the past few days, you have been taught how to make some African dishes and I taught you how to slaughter turkey. Today, I want us to have a taste of our dishes."
"Hmmm...I never expected that," she sounded surprised.
Felix gazed at her in astonishment as he continued to explain what he had planned out.
"Just so you know, you might end up doing the cooking yourself because I'll be out to see Mum for the final family meeting before our departure tomorrow. The workers in the house all had their day off today, so it's just the two of us. Can I trust you with that, or would you wait until I return?
She responded assuredly, "Am gonna surprise you, just go and come back to see what am capable of doing."
Felix planted a kiss on her lips, got off the bed, took his bath, dressed up and left for the meeting.
Lilian swung into action the moment her husband left as if she had been waiting for an opportunity like that.
Felix has invested so much in the poultry farm on her mother's land and they had both come together to check on the farm, greet family members and tour some parts of the country.
She walked into the poultry, picked a turkey, shackled its legs and hung it upside-down, slit the throat on a circular blade and processed it further.
During the process, she noticed something strange while slaughtering the turkey which she had never encountered before.
"What could this be? Poison or...is this turkey affected somehow?" she mumbled to herself in a bewildered state as she processed it.
She finished the turkey preparation within an hour and prepared her husband's favorite meal, Jollof rice.
She covered the dishes she had made appropriately, set the dining table, tidied up the kitchen and prepared for her husband's arrival.
The moment she heard a car horn from outside, she hurriedly left the sitting room to open the gate without confirming if that was her husband.
"Babe am finally here." Felix sounded like he had longed for her a long time ago as he hopped out of his car.
She approached him majestically in her skimpy gown with her face dolled up. She wrapped her arms around his waist and whispered," Are you ready for the surprise?"
"Damn! Your beauty keeps appreciating every single day."
"Common, am waiting for your response." she purred while gazing at his well-built physique and his skin tone.
"Sure, I am! Shall we?"
Felix trailed from behind as he watched his wife moving majestically towards the dining area.
The aroma from the dining table was mouth-watering making Felix's stomach growl in anticipation.
"Tell me you made all of this and set the table?" Felix was surprised by what he found in the dining.
Who could have done that but me!?"
"This is so amazing." He said and sat quietly to enjoy what was before him.
He was at the point of picking up the spoon when Lillian stopped him.
"Babe, I have something strange that I want to share with yo." She sounded so serious.
"What could that be?"
"Babe, I can't really explain the strange thing I saw while slaughtering the turkey. It's unusual and I can sense in my spirit that something isn't right here."
"I still don't get it, what did you see?" He asked in a confused tone.
"Honestly, I don't have a perfect explanation for the strange thing I saw."
"So what do you suggest we do? I hope you aren't thinking of trashing these. Impossible!"
"OK! How about we feed our dog with some portion and observe him for two hours?" She suggested.
"Well, it's best for our dog to also take part in this enjoyment. Trust me, there was nothing strange in what you saw but I will agree with whatever you say."
She quickly took the fattest portions of the fried turkey, walked out of the room and served Savana, their dog.
He devoured the two pieces in no time, and his mouth was watering for more.
Felix was watching the drama unfold between his wife and the dog, as she kept a close eye on Savanna at 30-minute intervals.
After two hours had passed, Felix urged his wife to let them eat cause his stomach couldn't stand the sight of the food any longer.
"Please babe, this is gonna be the last one, I promise." She served another portion to Savanna and he ate without leaving a bone behind.
After waiting for another two hours and nothing happened to him, they let him go out for a walk just as he is used to after every meal.
Felix walked back to the dining room, sat quietly, grabbed the spoon and began to eat without waiting for his wife's approval.
His wife joined instantly and they both enjoyed the deliciously made meal together.
"Wow! I can't believe you made me wait so long to eat this delicious meal. you must be mean!"
"Am sorry babe but it's worth the stay, Right?"
"All I know is that this is the best meal ever prepared by you yet!"
After they had both finished eating, they sat still at the table while discussing what she saw that made her believe the turkey might not be safe for consumption.
Just as they were discussing, someone knocked on the door.
They both looked at themselves surprisingly because they weren't expecting any visitors.
"Hello, how can we help you?" Felix asked the stranger as he opened the door.
"Sir, am sorry to bother you. I was walking by your gate and found a dog lying dead. I believed the dog is from this compound sir." The stranger explained and walked out of their compound.
On hearing the news, They both fell on their knees and burst into tears.
"I should have believed you!" Felix said soberly.
He moved closer to his wife, held on to her tightly and they both wept bitterly.
"God, can you let this hour elude us? We don't deserve to die!" Lilian prayed earnestly as she cried even more.
"The surest thing now is death, it's better we make our ways right before the Lord so that we can inherit the kingdom of God according to the scripture. Shall we confess our sin to God and pray before our last breadth." Felix urged both of them.
Fear crept in at that moment but the choice has been made. Felix began with his confession.
"I...I once lust over your friend Isabelle because she has tempting boobs but I never succumb to the temptation. Also, I haven't forgiven our pastor yet even after he had apologized to me but am letting go of it now."Felix made his confession so brief and quick.
"I just...I hope you find a place to forgive me in your heart for what I am about to say. Will you?" Lillian asked.
Felix nodded in curiosity as the inevitable thought of dying soon crossed his mind, leaving him with a mix of fear and wonder.
"The truth is that... The two children you are raising as your own aren't yours." Lillian's hands shook and her body started trembling.
"What! You mean you have been cheating on me? Tell me this is not true!?"
Lilian bowed her head in shame, her face turning crimson as she realized death was closer and she had to be forgiven before her last breath.
