Patricia feels the best way to revive her dying business is to get married to Harry, the heir to one of the rising companies in town. She decides to divorce Edgar, a man she never saw as a husband but a parasitic useless fellow, but as humans, most times we lose diamonds in search of stones. Edgar Plutus, the Last Descendant of the god of money vowed to get back on those who belittled him when the time comes. Imagine money itself trying to get back at you. Ha! Poverty awaits you.
Money can buy everything.
Yes, you read that right.
If you say otherwise, then you need to work harder. If your money can't buy anything, it just isn't enough.
This was Edgar's belief. Of course it will. He was the last descendant of money.
Like Literally.
He came from a place where the fate of the world's fortune lay. He looked through the window. He could see people moving around fast, trying to gather as much money as they could.
He smirked.
Money was a spirit and he being its last descendant he had the ability to control who it'll favor or who it wouldn't.
"Edgar!!! Where is that son of a bitch? That pauper does nothing but eat our food without doing a thing."
How ironic. Edgar scoffed. He came from money, but was called a pauper by an ordinary woman.
He shrugged. That was what he got from deciding to live as the good-for-nothing son-in-law of the Simpsons and the husband of Patricia Simpson, a successful business woman.
"Edgar!" Patricia shrilled. "I work hard everyday to fend for this family but that mother fucker does nothing all day."
Work hard? Edgar scoffed. If it was for Patricia's hard work alone, she and her family would most probably not have a roof over their head. Everything Patricia was was made by Edgar. When Edgar married Patricia, she was a struggling seamstress who could count the number of dresses she had sown in her lifetime. Patricia started her sewing business at the age of 17. Edgar married her when she was 28. All throughout those years, they were years she had not sown a dress. It was that bad.
He had married Patricia because it was the dying wish of Patricia's father who had saved his mentally ill grandma.
"Grandma," Edgar whispered softly while remembering his grandma. She was the only family he had.
He then recalled what had happened 25 years ago. He was 10 by the time. Before his eyes, a man in all black killed his father, mother, siblings, uncle, and cousins.
Edgar's father was a demigod. The son of the god of money himself who came to earth, got married to a human just like his father did. While he was alive, he was known by everyone on earth. Who wouldn't know about a man who controlled Zillions? A man who could spend billions everyday and still hold the title of the richest man on earth. He was just not rich. He could decide who should have no money and who should.
Who ever killed his father was no ordinary person? Edgar knew this, but the question was, who did? The only person that was rich enough to pay death to take the family of the Demigod of Money was the god of money himself.
But, the god of money had gone missing immediately Edgar's father was born. By the way, which father was cruel enough to kill his son?
Edgar closed his eyes and somehow he time traveled to 27 years ago.
"Grandma!" Edgar watched as the 10 year old screamed, as Lucas, the servant whose care his grandma had placed him in, threw him on his back and ran through a tunnel underneath the house.
"Grandma, please come with me," He cried out. Lucas had taken him far away from home, but somehow he hoped that his grandma could hear him and come to save him.
Suddenly, he heard his grandma's voice. She was screaming and cussing. Edgar glanced at the 10 year old version of him. He knew he could hear it too. They were about to see a vision. A live vision that was actually happening at the moment. It was a gift. A family thing. Well it was not actually a gift since it was of course bought by his demigod father.
His family had everything anybody could think. Flying cupcakes, scentless perfumes, invisible clothes, charms, powers, whatever weird thing one could think of were owned by at least a member of Edgar's family.
"Where is that seed of Mammon?" Edgar heard someone roar. It was the most evil voice he had ever heard. Immediately, the scene changed from a crying 10 year old version of himself and Lucas escaping to his grandma being tortured by his family murderer. He couldn't see his face.
Every other thing was as clear as day, but weirdly, the murderer's face was blurred off.
"Don't you dare touch Grandma again," He roared, but of course, no one could hear. Nobody ever did. It was a vision and he wasn't really there after all. He remembered trying to escape from Lucas to save his grandma, but each time he tried, he failed to.
Edgar felt a sharp pain in the chest as the cane with nails struck his grandma back. Her cries drove through his soul like a sword through the heart.
The scene changed again to when his grandma underwent a mindwipe. The mindwipe was for him. Grandma lost all her memories. She lost her insanity too.
The scene changed to when his grandma was condemned to death since she was not useful. She managed to escape to the cold streets which could have killed her if she had not been saved by a man. The man was Patricia's father and that was one of the reasons he was here in the first place.
"Edgar! You son of a bitch."
Patricia's annoying voice interrupted the journey from 25 years ago.
Edgar turned to look at Patricia who was at 5he door. He frowned. Patricia was nothing like her father. Well, she was not as bad as she currently was, 7 years ago. Then, she was nothing. Had nothing. But of course, money makes people change. When he married Patricia, she was a 28-year-old single mother of a child whose father had dumped after always beating her up in whatever ways he could. She was broken, unhappy and shamed by society when he met her. One would think that she would be grateful for Edgar not joining society in seeing her as flawed, but the opposite was the case. He had decided to help in making her business successful. He basically gave her all the money she had. He should have probably considered before deciding to give more than enough of it.
"Ungrateful brat! How dare you talk to who made you what you are today however you like," Edgar wanted to say but he could not. That was the whole idea of being in disguise by the way, wasn't it?
"I-I'm so sorry," Edgar said instead feigning a stutter.
"Ma'am," Another voice chipped in. "You should add ma'am. You're nowhere near my daughter's class after." The person who talked was Beatrice, the mother of Patricia. If Patricia was bad, she was evil. She had always been evil from day one. She wanted a rich husband for her daughter. It was quite disappointing when she did not get what she wanted.
"Mum, this husband of mine is just so useless," Patricia whined.
"Husband?" Beatrice scoffed. "Please. He's not your husband. He has never been. He is not. He would never be. As far as I am concerned, you are very much single." Beatrice turned to Edgar and eyed him from head to toe. "This piece of trash is just nobody we decided to take in and feed."
She looked back at her daughter and smiled. "How was your night with the CEO? Associating with him would really be good for business."
"Great!" Beatrice cheered. "That's great. Hope you told him that you're single and have never been married, because that's obviously the truth."
"Yes. Though, I need to divorce legally so my truth would be legal."
Edgar smirked. Patricia divorcing him would definitely be her downfall.
"But your father wanted this marriage," Edgar pointed out.
Beatrice raised her hand and before Edgar could realize what was going on, the hand had landed on his chin. He heard the resounding sound before he felt the sharp pain across his face.
"What father? The same father that was as useless as you are? I forbid that my daughter marries a man like that man. The most annoying part was how he lived in the illusion of being able to help other people when he had nothing. First, he burdened us with that useless old hag who shares the same blood with you and still decided to increase our burden by adding you. As far as I am concerned, my daughter, Patricia, has no father."
Edgar clenched his fist. How dare this vile woman look down at his grandma the way she did? He tried taking in more deep breaths. If he failed to control himself, Beatrice, her daughter and the house and few more houses around would be burnt to ashes. It'll draw attention and attention was the last thing he needed at the moment.
"You can divorce me if you want, but you'd be doing two things if you do. One, you won't fulfill your father's last wish and two, you'd be doing yourself more harm than good. Remember, you became more successful when I came into your life.," Edgar said softly.
Beatrice cackled. "You're the one who would be at the losing end, foolish man. You'd no longer be living the good life we give you for free. On the other hand, my daughter would be more successful. Plus, get rid of the idea that my daughter is successful because 0f you. She became successful when her father left our lives. She would definitely be more successful if you leave too."
Edgar smirked. Time will tell.
