Alex wanted to say something more. But when he saw the gentle and firm look in Scarlett's eyes, he shut his mouth and took the divorce agreement from her.
He couldn't help feeling a little sad.
But he could only sigh and say, "Mrs. Roberts, please take care of yourself."
Scarlett nodded gently and dragged her suitcase out of the villa. As soon as she walked out the door, she felt unprecedentedly relaxed and at ease.
Perhaps divorce was really the best choice.
From now on, she would start anew. She would face a new life.
The sun was setting down, and the sky turned orange. But gradually, it got darker and darker. As night fell, the Roberts Group building started to light up, making it look bright.
The door of the conference room on the top floor opened, and Elias walked out with a solemn face. He had just finished the meeting.
Jude followed closely and began to enumerate his schedule.
"Mr. Roberts, you have a video conference in half an hour. Then, Mr. Wright has prepared a welcome party for you..."
"Cancel it," Elias interrupted in a low voice before Jude could finish his words.
Jude didn't say anything more. He just nodded and said, "Okay." After a while, he said tentatively, "Mr. Roberts, there is one more thing..."
Elias stopped in his tracks, turned around, and looked at Jude. He asked in a cold and deep voice, "When have you become so hesitant when you speak?"
Jude quickly said, "Alex called and said Mrs. Roberts had already signed the divorce agreement. She left it to Alex."
After saying this, he lowered his head.
He was hesitant just now because he knew that mentioning Scarlett's name would irritate Elias.
Sure enough, the atmosphere around them froze for a moment. When Jude thought Elias would not say anything, he suddenly heard a sneer.
After working for Elias for a long time, Jude already knew Elias very well. He knew that Elias only sneered when he was in a bad mood. And it rarely happened.
Upon realizing this, Jude broke out in a cold sweat.
If Elias was unhappy, he would suffer.
Elias looked at him emotionlessly and said, "Send the divorce agreement to me."
"Okay, Mr. Roberts."
After a while, Elias got the divorce agreement. He didn't read it at all. Instead, he turned to the last page for his signature.
Then Scarlett's signature came into view.
Elias looked at it, squinting his eyes. He felt a little disdainful.
He knew very well that Scarlett married him for money. But now, she suddenly wanted to divorce him. What was she planning to do?
A little curious, he looked through the pages casually. Then his eyes fell on one of the terms in the agreement.
It was stated there that Scarlett wouldn't accept any alimony. And the money she borrowed from the Roberts family a year ago had been paid off with interest.
Elias was a little surprised on this part. He didn't expect Scarlett to pay off the money.
Somehow, he couldn't help wondering if he had misunderstood Scarlett. Was she actually not a woman greedy for money?
Elias was still lost in thought when his phone suddenly rang. He looked at the screen and found it was his grandmother, Ella, calling.
He answered it at once.
Ella's anxious voice immediately came through from the other end of the line. "Elias, what is going on? I will never allow you to divorce Scarlett. Never!"
Elias squinted and looked at the wall. He said meaningfully, "Grandma, you are really well-informed."
He had just received the divorce agreement, but his grandmother immediately called to stop him from divorcing Scarlett. He couldn't help thinking. Was it just a coincidence or Scarlett's trick?
She was really scheming.
Ella was silent for a few seconds. Then she said seriously, "No matter what, you can't divorce Scarlett. I won't let it happen. Elias, Scarlett is a good woman. Why don't you cherish her?"
Elias put the agreement on the table and said, "Grandma, it was she who wanted to divorce me."
However, Ella still blamed him. She shouted, "What do you expect? In one year that you were married, you always ignored her. She had put up with you. But no matter how long the patience of a woman is, she will give up if her husband is always cold to her."
Elias rubbed his aching temples helplessly. He didn't understand why Ella liked Scarlett so much. She even insisted that he married Scarlett. Now Scarlett wanted to divorce him, and she still wouldn't allow it.
He sighed and asked, "Grandma, why do you always insist that we stay together? Why don't you even ask me if I like her or not?"
Ella said, "Because Scarlett is a good woman. I can assure you. It's just that you haven't gotten along yet. But when you know what kind of a person she is, you will definitely like her."
Elias didn't say anything. He only sneered at Ella's words.
Ella noticed that Elias was still unwilling. But she didn't intend to give up. She continued to persuade him. "Elias, I beg you one last time. Get along with Scarlett and cultivate your relationship with her. I'm sure you'll change your opinion of her."
"Grandma, are you serious? You want me to cultivate a relationship with that kind of woman?"
As he spoke, Elias sounded very disgusted.
But Ella still insisted, "Three months! Give it three months. Keep your marriage and stay with Scarlett for three months. If it still doesn't work after that, you are free to divorce her. I will never interfere. How about that?"
