Even durk says it was not supposed to be big but he spazzed... "I feel the love from these diamonds when they glistenin', Know how you feel when you finally get attention, 'Cause before, it seems like niggas wouldn't listen..." Many factors might be responsible but Durkio's true dedication to the streets is the definitive.
THE VOICE would be the muse but these projects were closely scrutinized - Just Cause Y'all Waited 2, Signed To The Streets 3 & The Voice Of The Heroes - Lil Baby & Lil Durk while Signed to the streets 3 would hit me the hardest and Lil Baby would bring the fire as heroes do; The Voice had the nod for this one. Tracks like "Kanye Krazy", "Redman", "Death Ain't Easy" would immediately stand out on the first listen still songs like "Not The Same", "Backdoor", "The Voice" where Durk goes..." You lookin' crazy, know the trenches raised me, I'm Durkio, but I'm Chicago JAY-Z..." brought me back countless times for the whole 28-track length. This Empirical talent deserves a Grammy for his representation of the game.
Review of Backdoor to end
Midway through the Deluxe version, on track 16 "The Voice"; Durk gets more refined. This upper echelon trap might be "Misunderstood" - "Not The Same" my all-time Durkio favourite as this.."Lesson, this shit is a blessin'//I came up from nothin', I keep on progressin'//Reckless, I go off my actions
You snitchin', you infected, you let they ass finesse it, uh-oh". "India Pt.3" & "Coming Clean" are deep love manuscripts for his better half and other ladies who loved him the way he appreciated. The street paeans bounced back with "Going Strong" as he opens up about Nuski and reminds us ..." Tryna take care of my whole family, tryna keep them bein' stable". More street scenery ensued in "Changes", "Lamborghini Mirrors feat Booka600'' as we learn from the overlord of the street arts ..." You can't leave love in the past, you gotta try again
I gotta watch the way I park, that's why I'm backin' in
My guys died so we drop ashes in the Lamborghini..."
Other musical alliances would stick out 100 miles "Stay Down feat 6lack, Young Thug" a song where 6lack goes So much fun, nigga, shout-out to Thug and Thug aptly replies.."If you love me would you tell me that you ride for me // Keep it gangsta, would you die for me? Let you shop, go get all designer gear"; "Still Trappin'' with von is the hardest trap clime - truth is, the fiery drill of King Von on some Durk's hyping set another scene tho' the chorus would be von's... "This that shit that have you chokin' and it got Tooka killed (Huh? What? It got Tooka killed, yeah) , Niggas chasin' clout and claimin' bodies they ain't do for real (Yeah, it's Smurk) And my bitch got ass shots, but I promise that this strap is real (Damn, damn, gang, gang, grrah, grrah, grrah, huh)"
Viral trap in JCYW2
JCYW2 was touted to be Durk's undisputed submission off the solo success of JCYW and it delivered some of the fastest and compact Durk joints up till date. "All love" tell one too many tales of Durk's definition of love although he lectures the brotherhood love is the greatest when kept real. "Gucci Gucci feat. Gunna" is a refreshing classic auto-tuned sound you would always vibe to. "Viral Moments", a track with sound production for legends ..." Yeah, I pop these pills, they try to read my thoughts" // "And make that time up for your kids, 'cause you know time ain't bought, Booka brought me a diamond cross, but he know he won't cross me "."Internet Sensation" started on a spectacular note mixing lin with lyrical lemonade as Durk sings "this might just be the best relationship he just might have been in". "Internet Sensation" would be succeeded by "Street Prayer". If you doubt Lil. Durk's singing prowess; you are bound for a turnaround in "Broke Up In Miami". "Where they go" in the deluxe deserves a strong shout out.
Below is Durkio's prayer for the streets: -
"See the trenches had made us
Lil' nigga, got my weight up
Hard work and dedication
Street niggas need to pray up"
"It is what it is" // STTS 3
With too much Durk to vibe to from voice; Signed To The Streets 3 proved to be the deepest lyrical book have found from Durk's trendsetting catalogue series. Just 18 tracks - "Spin The Block" the star featured track might be hardest where durky goes "ridin' 'round with your Draco// ridin' 'round with your mask on// ridin' 'round with your Glock out" introduced "Neighborhood hero" where the true notions of durk would go loose while he says he would provide help even when Obama would not. The best collaboration should be a 100 grand with a killer hook from Dolla $ign and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie coming through with one of the best deliveries I heard from him while "Skrub" & "Play With Us" where Durk lays down a lot of recipes he construed while raving about fake love females showed when everything he wanted was just to leave the trenches. "Don't Talk To Me" with Gunna was another hard set from the word go. "Benihana" would not fail to disappoint as a Klassic Kodak appearance // "It is What It Is" would gain over a million replays from me - Durk's artistry and reality play do the check every time." ...I pull up with a bag of Cole Bennett, I pull up on Izzy for gold, 55K for some gold pendants, I'm sellin' drugs to my tenants..." This version of Trap-singing is lucid and would not fail to speak its truth to you. A lot of Durk's efforts are truly phenomenal but "It Is What It Is" deserves its standing ovation.
Collaborations - Von, OTF
You cannot fully understand Durk if you don't look through his Family's eyes - R.I.P King Von. "All These Niggas" showed the larger than life synergy between Von and Durk with devastating effects. Von's preferred style of delivery would be Drill and this imprint is on some earlier Durkio music. Welcome To O'Block was a belated offering and would have been Von's indefinite pathway to stardom if not for his tragic shooting - King Von is a "Faithful man but with all these inks I look like a cheetah"
Family Over Everything is where Booka600, Memo600 and Malik Key write scriptures on the importance of having loyal bros. "Gang forever feat. Jusblow600" is an immediate introduction: Von goes..." You cant name no niggas better//We get caught we gone forever...//Killed that man cause he knew better" Don't underestimate what you can learn while smoking a blunt vibing on an OTF project super-laced with Durk Banks input; even when he sings "OD off them percocets (Percocets)" the shit sounds fly. The neighbourhood hero would go "Brazy Krazy" and Polo G would ride with him on "Career Day". Booka600 is let loose in "The Hood" ..." On the curb with the fire hydrants//At the Park watching City and Manny Dub for the highlights//Ditching school for the highlife//Robbing for Jordan's not the flight Nikes" ... C3's solo offering "On Stone" is another good listen without Durk Banks input. The powerhouse - Lil. Durk, GHerbo & Booka - would be back on "Riots" as they embrace the streets so the kids can come out to play again. "This is a Story" and "Fake Love" by Von and Durk consecutively are truly inspirational tracks while "Whole Lotta" continues this trend, "One Mo Chance" ushers us out as Durk sings: -
"I done show love to these niggas,
But I mistreated niggas who gon' rock with me to the end,
Forgive me again,
Just give me your hand,
To make my friends//
Y'all are my friends"
Verdict, Other Artiste listened to
..." I'm on my get back gang shit, I do this for Von" ... "Durk goin' to the GRAMMYs //This one for you// We keep on chantin" ...
Drake would be a big influence in the mid-stages of this writing; shout out to Certified Lover Boy {even tho' the Canadian rapper removed his entries for the 2022 grammy}. Westside Gunn's Hitler wears Hermes 8: side B was also a steady companion. The lyrical check and balance would however be Nas's. I was a big fan of King's Disease but King's Disease II would blow my mind away and deserves another Grammy... In my reference of the Old Kings - Nas had this contribution "...I'm standing next to rookies somehow they lookin' older" in "Store Run" - following Durk's meteoric rise, Nas's favourite line "The WORLD IS YOURS" is quite true. Apollo Brown and Veen would add some sauce. Talk About It - M.I would be my first buddy for a company while scheming my table of contents. Life of A Don and Thug's Punkwould serve as the trap-singing counter check. Two greatly delivered albums - shout out to Toliver. Durk is on par with these niggas, give him his Grammy
