"Let's get a divorce." Neli heard Caleb say when he entered her room. She saw him put a piece of paper on the table, even if she didn't look at it, she already knew what that paper was for. "Okay." Neli answered indifferently then went to the table on the side of her bed to get a pen. "Where do I sign?" One of her regrets was marrying Caleb. At first she didn't want to get married to him, but she fell in love at first sight when she saw Caleb. Neli thought that maybe he would learn to love her too, but that didn't happen because it turned out that he wanted someone else. After their marriage, Neli met Hazel, her husband lover. She also lives in the villa where they were supposed to live as a married couple. She thought she would live as Mrs. Valdez, but she only became a slave to her husband's lover. Fortunately, he's the one who took the initiative to ask for a divorce. Neli thought her life would be peaceful again, but why is it that when she signed their divorce papers, her ex-husband was always by her side.
"What are you doing here?" Neli asked when she saw her step-mother in front of her apartment.
It had been a long time since she last saw her.
Neli was three years old when her mother died in a car accident and a year later after her mother's death, her father got married to Linda. Her step-mother treated her well at first, but she suddenly changed after she gave birth to her step-sister.
She was treated as a maid by Linda and her step-sister whenever her father goes abroad to take care of their business. Her life became miserable for the past ten years, until she decided to tell her father what they did to her. But instead of talking to her step-mother, her father suddenly decided to send her to the countryside where their former head maid lives.
Fortunately, their former head maid treated her well. Mrs. Trent and her husband took care of her and they treated her like a real granddaughter.
"Neli, please help us!" Linda said begging while kneeling in front of her. "You are the only one who can help us."
Neli's blood suddenly boiled with anger because of what she heard. After everything Linda did to her, now she will ask her for help as if everything is okay?
Neli took a deep breath before she walked past her and headed to her apartment, but before she could even open the door someone from behind her suddenly covered her nose and mouth.
Neli's whole body immediately went weak when she smelled something from the cloth. She wanted to break free from someone's grip, but she didn't have the strength to move until she completely lost her consciousness.
"Ouch!"
Neli immediately felt the pain in her head when she woke up. She looked up to check the room where she was in, it was her old room in the mansion
'What am I doing here?'
"Oh, you're finally awake."
Neli heard the door open and saw her step-mother there.
"Why did you bring me here?" she asked angrily.
She didn't want to go back to the mansion, she promised to herself back then that she would never go back there.
"Relax, my dear. I will not hurt you." her step-mother said with a smile. She sat on the chair next to her bed. "Like what I said, you're the only one who can help us."
Neli doesn't know what her step-mother wants to happen or what she needs from her, but she knew one thing, she will not help Linda even though she says that she's the only one who can help her.
"Your dad's company is about to go bankrupt." Neli's body froze in shock because of what she heard. She knew how much her father loved his company, but there was nothing she could do to help him. "So we decided to let you marry Mr. Brandon to save your father's business."
Mr. Brandon is a famous businessman and he is also known as a womanizer and cruel person that can kill without hesitation just like what he did to his wife. But because he had money, he was able to get his case dismissed in court without going to jail.
"I will never do that!"
"Mr. Brandon promised to help your dad's company, and he only asked for marriage in return."
"Why don't you marry him to your daughter then." she said angrily.
"Are you serious?" Linda said with a laugh. "Do you think I will let my precious daughter marry that kind of a person?"
"And you think I will agree just because you told me to marry that person?" she said angrily at her.
"I guess. Anyway, you don't have any choice..." Linda grinned to her before she stood up. "...unless you don't want to see Mr. and Mrs. Trent anymore."
Neli's chest pounded with fear thinking that something bad might have happened to the old couple. She immediately stood up and angrily faced her step-mother.
"I will never forgive you if you do something to them!!"
"If you don't want them to get hurt..." Linda brought her lips to her ear. "...then, you have to marry Mr. Brandon."
