Chapter 1: Sending his mate away

Author's POV

~~~
Craven stared long and hard at the infant in his arms, she now slept peacefully after so much tears, her tears stained soft cheeks tugged at his heart, he felt moved by her pretty round face, how can he kill her?, What can he do now?,
He could neither kill nor let her live, she was too dangerous even as a child... As his Mate...
"No I can't kill her" he whispered to Beta,
He raised his head and stared at the Old man,
"How could you even suggest killing her?, she's your grandchild for Moon's sake!" Craven whispered furiously.
Parnell stiffened
"My obligation to the pack overrides all other duties, even one to my family, before you remind me she's my grandchild, let me remind you, the Alpha king won't spare this pack if he finds out an offspring of Alexander Black lives and breathes in the air of this land" Parnell replied, throwing in the Alpha King's name.
"Even without the Alpha king breathing down on our neck, you have to remember she's a warlock's daughter and if you don't kill her now, she'll kill you and destroy us, the future of the entire wolf tribe lies with you" he added.
"The Alpha king can't do anything, he takes his orders from me and wouldn't dare to touch my pack" Craven glared furiously at the old man.
Parnell was taken aback, he didn't expect his reaction.
"Even so, you have to destroy her, she's too powerful, she'll be the end of us, for damn's sake you should be worried about your pack and not some soft faced intact!" The old man urged forcefully.
"She's not some child, she's my mate!, and lower your voice when you speak to your Alpha" Craven hissed.
"Well..., we all have to make sacrifices" Parnell said, picking his words.
Craven should never have gotten his hand on the child in the first place, he would have gotten rid of her in his own way. He thought with disgust.
"You have to remember I'm still the Alpha of this pack and I decide what goes on here, do pick your words old man" the look Craven gave him made Parnell step back unconsciously,
he had to admit the 16 year old Alpha might be unreasonable and emotional at times, but it doesn't make him less dangerous than his Father, if not more, otherwise he wouldn't have been the Alpha of the pack and undoubtedly the next Alpha king.
"I'll do what you suggested if that would save the pack from future troubles, you're right, the pack comes first before other things, Assemble the pack Elders I'll be there in five minutes" he said grimly.
It's of no use refusing the old man or arguing with him either, Crave sighed, he'll find a way to hurt the child anyway.
The only way to save the poor thing is to agree, she's too powerful.
The old man is right, she might lead to his downfall or pack's ruination, either way he's not so heartless that he'll kill an infant, in fact the old man might do the deed himself. Craven made out a plan.
Parnell was surprised the stubborn Alpha agreed but he was too happy to complain,
He carried out the young Man's order and assembled the Elders.
Everything was perfect, it was like killing two birds with a stone.
Getting rid of the powerful bastard and rendering the Alpha Mateless.
**18 years later**
"Mo-ther" the girl moaned in frustration, if only her mother would just agree!
"It's only five days, I promise I'll stay out of trouble" she pleaded, following her mother into the kitchen
"Go and set the table, your father will be home soon then you can argue with him" Helen replied
"You know he won't accept if you don't, please Ma" the girl pressed.
"I've already told you my decision, now move out of my way, I'll set the table if you refuse to do it" her mother replied
She moved out of the way and the woman stepped out of the kitchen.
"Arggh, why doesn't she want me to go?, I'm an adult now!" The girl said under her breath.
"I heard that" her mother replied from the dining room.
"So much for whispering" she said with irritation, that's one of the things about wolves, your hearing is super sharper that than of humans, amongst others.
"I'm not a child Mom, besides it's my last year, I really want to go, please—" she pleaded.
"You might think you're not a child but you act like one and it doesn't matter if you're 5 or 45 you'll always be my child so when I say no I mean no" Helen said firmly.
"But Mo-ther—"
"Hey who's at home?" Her Father's cheerful voice brought a smile to her face.
"Don't go getting any naughty ideas in that head of yours young lady" Helen pointed a spoon at her, seeing the smug look on the girl's face, she knew without saying she was up to no good.
"We'll see"
She stuck out her tongue at her mother and quickly stepped back.
"There's nothing like a good looking meal to make a man happy after a long stressful day" Shane smiled as he walked into the room.
"Hey how was your day?" Helen asked with a smile
"Lovely but stressful" he smiled his thanks.
"Where's my buttercup?" He asked,
he followed the direction of Helen's eyes and found their daughter sitting in one of the chairs,
Helen couldn't believe her eyes, in less than two minutes, the girl had managed to look 50 years older, with hands shaking, lips trembling, tears streaming down her face, with mist in her eyes, her shoulders drawn and back hunched.
Helen just couldn't believe her eyes, the plate in her hands fell and shattered into pieces, her jaw fell as she stared at her Christmas child.
"Alexandra Carson, just what are you up to?" The woman asked in disbelief.
Shane felt miserable seeing the look on his daughter's face.
"What's wrong buttercup?" He asked throwing his wife a questioning glance, Helena stood transfixed.
"Dad..." Alexandra's voice broke, good going there girl, she mentally patted herself on the head,
She had both of her parents in her palm now, they'll have to listen to her this time and let her have her way,
Her father stepped closer to her and covered her shaking hands with his larger ones, Alexandra pulled her hands away from beneath his,
He was baffled, Helen moved close and gently stroked her hair, she couldn't for the life of hers figure out what this Christmas child wants now, just few minutes ago, she was bubbling with mischief, now what?
"I promise Dad, I'll be on my best behavior, just allow me to go this once" Alexandra said, she could see the confusion in her father's eyes, her plan was working.
"But buttercup, where do you wanna go?" Shane asked in surprise, he has never restricted her movement, never stopped her from going wherever she wants.
"The school trip" Alexandra replied, looking from her father to her mother.
"I thought we are over this" Helen said in shock, she couldn't believe the child was crying over something so insignificant.
"On what?" Shane asked his wife and mate
"The school trip of course, I already told her it's a no, she's not going and that's my final decision" Helen pointed her her index finger at her daughter.
"But why?"
"Are you seriously asking me why, for this year's trip, do you know where they're going?"
"Mom, stop making it sound like America isn't a nice place" Alexandra interrupted quickly.
"America?" Shane felt his breath pulse
"Please Daddy, it's my last year, I'll never get another Chance!" She said frantically, she grabbed her father's hand and held on to it like her life depends on it.
"But buttercup, you can't —"
Alexandra feigned a perfect pain stricken look, it looked so real that Shane felt like he was being stabbed in the spine.
"No Shane" Helen whispered shaking her head, she knew without saying that he would grant her her wish, he loved her so much, perhaps too much.
"Fine you can go but promise me something" He swallowed hard, knowing he was doing the last thing the Alpha had forbidden,
"What is it Daddy?" Alexandra's face brightened a bit
"Don't ever get... get close to California"
***
After promising her Dad, he registered her name just as the registration was about to close.
Alexandra was so happy that she could faint from happiness, she rushed up to her room to get her things ready,
The only thing she has to do is pack her stuffs as quickly as possible, the trip to America is going to be a memorable one, even if it isn't, she'll make it one.
having finished packing her things, she chose tomorrow's outfit, of black jeans and pink top and pink sneakers, just what she needed.
