The Jealousy of My Husband's Sister
"My sister-in-law and I were pregnant around the same time, so we planned to go for our last prenatal check-up together. After learning that I was having a boy, my sister-in-law, who had never been able to have a boy, pressed on my belly and spun it around, using the excuse of feeling the baby. In the middle of the night, I experienced contractions, and the baby's umbilical cord got tangled, resulting in a stillbirth. My mother-in-law scolded me, saying I was unfortunate and had caused the death of her grandson. My husband angrily blamed me, saying, 'Now I understand why your father hit you. You're useless; you can't even take care of the baby in your belly. What good are you?' I was so upset that I bled heavily and died on the hospital bed. When I opened my eyes again, my sister-in-law was pulling me out of the ultrasound room, asking if I was having a boy or a girl. I gently touched my belly, my face filled with disappointment, and said, 'It's a girl.' My sister-in-law forced down the corners of her mouth that were about to lift in a smile and pretended to comfort me. But she didn't see the smile that I couldn't help but show at the corners of my mouth when I looked down."
